What kind of school puts one of their radio color commentator guys on the point for the new coaching search???? Honestly...f'n embarrassing.

Why does Dave Mona have so much pull?? Who the hell cares what Dave Mona has to say about who should be the next coach?? Putting him on the search was as arbitrary as putting you or me in there.
 

Mona needs the job(s) to rebuild his baseball card collection that was ruined in a flood in his home. Maybe the U has accepted responsibility for the flood?

Another example of the circus being run over at the U. For a program that seems to hire on the cheap, they sure do waste a lot of money on search firms and PR assistance - something they could get for free basically from people on this board that are probably more knowledgable and would produce better results.

such vitriol from a man who has clearly succeeded more in life than Mona. Maybe supporting the U all of his adult life, running a consulting business and being connected is a set of better qualifications than being Art Vandelay or Dirk Diggler spewing crap from the safety of their keyboard.

Why is he qualified- they wanted a gopher booster- it came down to Adam Kelly and his ilk, the type people who hang out and launch semi-anonymous attacks or Dave Mona and the monied WCCO and 'M club' types. Glad they went with Mona and the big donors, not the guys who risk having their internet access taken away by their mom.

What an embarrassing situation. Dave Mona and Maturi out on the road, bumbling and stumbling, getting rejected at every turn. Its amateur hour!!!

I think the Vikings should let Pete Berich and Paul Allen be point guys on their next coaching search...

If you want to rip Mona, use some factual basis for it. There's plenty. But you have no idea the role he played in making this hire.

That said, this entire hiring has been a public relations disaster and Mona should have seen it coming. He should have had Maturi slowly walk back his Tubby comments. He should have slowly gotten Maturi talking about the right fit and a program builder instead of a big name. He should have seen the disappointment and anger this hire would create and been ready with arms of data and references on Kill to show why he's so good. He couldn't even manage to get the frickn tweet out on time. Much of the public angst about this hire is something a good PR man should have been able to avoid. As someone with a good deal of experience in PR, I'd give Mona an "F" on this one.

In high school, I lettered for two years in football. I was a warm body on the kickoff return team both years. Does that make me qualified? If so, to whom do I submit my resume? ;)
 

Dave Mona was THE driving force behind the back-to-campus movement that beganin in the late-90's/early 00's.

So you are saying that he was the last one leading that bandwagon when "The Brotherhood" (whomever they really are) got tired of being reminded that lining their pockets with University money solely for their personal gain further destroyed the University of Minnesota football program that they were bilking.

Excellent analysis - I would like to know Mona's exact job description in this hiring. If it was simply a PR role he better jump on that treadmill and get to work given the negative reaction so far.
 



From my understanding he was right out there on the front lines with Maturi.
