Is he struggling with substance abuse? He could not stop saying McKnight was the RB. Now, the other guys do not even correct him.

The other guys probably figure that no one is listening so why bother correcting him.

We're so sad that even our announcers suck. Why would they keep Lee and let Mazzocco go? Granted, Mazzocco is no Al Shaver, but Lee is tremendously awful. There must be some radio licensing bullcrap that we don't know about. Do the "powers that be" not listen to the public? I have never heard one positive comment regarding Lee's game calling. He can sure read a commercial, though!

Need to send my semi annual email

DAVE LEE SSUCKS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

He must have pictures of someone. Please email Learfield and maybe they will get the message...

Almost a quote " ball on the 45, gain of 6.... 2nd down from the 31???????

"Penn States ball fourth down and short at mid field...

...and it looks like the Buckeyes are going to go for it"

My favorite:
Handoff to McKnight...down to the 35....nice run by DeLeon.

Maybe his eyes and ears are bleeding from having to watch this team every week?

Dave Lee is atrociously bad. I'm amazed they continue to let him run the play-by-play.

I'm sure he's a very nice guy, but he butchers both football and basketball horribly.

"Wisconsin punted from their 20, high kick, down at the 39." Whose 39? Because he is so poor at describing actions, I wasn't sure if it was a short kick or not.

Then he has some really odd inflections "blah blab blah... ***BALL!!!*** at midfield. For some odd reason he said the word "ball" as if something really big had happened, so you start listening carefully. He tends to wait until the play is over and give you a description of the play after the fact rather than describing it as it happens.

He seems unaware of what is going on on the field. He shouldn't have to wait until the official announcement of a penalty to figure out what it is and who it is on. And he doesn't remember what down it is or how many yards remain for a first down. He will often get the score wrong.

A high school announcer does better at describing the action. We need a reality show "who wants to be the next Gophers radio guy".

this. he kept saying BALL and i thought he was gonna continue with "BALL IS LOOSE" but he just says BALL is in burris' hand for the snap.

he also kept saying "mcknight with the carry, that was a great run by deleon" what the hell? dude is atrocious.

I was driving around listening for part of the first half until I got home and noticed the same thing. I thought they were running reverses, but then I was just confused.

I assume they have him doing games since he's already under contract as the morning guy for WCCO (where he's just as unlistenable). That way, they don't have to pay two people. I don't know why they didn't hire former Vikings annoucer Dan Rowe.

Sell the rights to the game to a radio station not sponsored by a funeral home and perhaps better announcers, younger fans, and winning will follow.

I am sticking with a substance abuse concern that has him contractually untouchable. please steel youself for next weeks game. UW students late to games = student late night hijinx tee heehee. Minny students late to game = apathetic losers

Wiscy announcers better

Living in Duluth we can also get the Wisconsin announcers....not even in the same league. The WCCO feed was delayed about 6-8 seconds behind the Wisconsin announcers. A few times went back and forth between and listened to the same play twice. It is bad news when your opponents play by play guy knows the Gopher roster better than our own announcers. Bad news but unfortunately expected.

Get Grimm working the football games with Darrell Thompson and let Mona do the pregame.

I thought I was the only one who notices that. He sometimes practically should BALL!, and it makes you think that something big has happened. He really needs to intern with a high school announcer. I'm serious, they know how to call a game. They may not be polished, but they get the basics right. What down is it, and how many yards to go? How much time is left? WHERE is the ball? What formation? Which side of the field? What is the play? How many yards did the play get, and how close is it to the first down?

These are the things that HS announcers get right. They learn this before they try to add color. They learn to match the numbers to the players names. Lee doesn't do this.

But my guess is that the job is his as long as he wants it. And when he retires as the worst sportscaster in D-I, he will be treated as if he is Ray.

Maybe Dave just picked the wrong Gopher sports season to give up sniffing glue???

Remember the days when you would turn the volume down on the TV and listen to the radio, because the radio announcer was so much better? That's the way it is supposed to be. The radio announcer is supposed to know the team and know the game like the back of his hand. Instead, TV announcers who have NEVER COVERED A GOPHERS GAME know the Gophers roster better than Dave Lee. And the cover the action AS IT HAPPENS.

The TV announcers who don't have to give you the full picture because you can see it for yourself do a better job than Dave Lee.

He also said THREE TIMES that MarQueis Gray caught the TD in the 4th quarter, followed by a short pause, then he said 'make that McKnight'.....He then trys to justify his mistake by saying something about usually it is Gray who is thrown to in the corners of the endzone. Had a good laugh at that one.

I did as well. Between Gladden, Gordon, Lee and Lee we have the worst announcers in the country. Add in Brew and Weber and Chilly and Glen Taylor and we really suck.

I just submitted my complaint form as well.

I had no out, I was in a car driving up north with my 2 year old. Worst broadcast I've probably ever heard in my life at any level.

I was just thinking that just about anyone could do better. What if anyone could? What if we did some guerilla sportscasting? Someone at the game could do play by play on their phone, and send it out via the web. It would probably be too noisy though not being in the broadcast booth.

Maybe if you had a web enabled phone, you could listen to the opponents broadcast. They know the Gophers roster better than Dave Lee does.

Submitted a complaint as well. We need to knock down one pillar of mediocrity at a time:)

I sent in my complaint. Yes, this is the least of minny's fb problems but it is annoying.

From Learfield's perspective, all they care about is whether or not they are making money. If Dave Lee is costing them listeners, then they would make the change. I don't know what the ratings are for Gophers radio broadcasts. There is a lot more TV coverage of Gophers games than their used to be, so if the ratings have dropped, they can use that as an excuse. The "golden age" of Gophers radio wasn't just Ray, it was that radio was so often your only choice. It used to be a rare treat to watch a Gophers game on TV, but Ray was always there on the radio.

Maybe contacting the sponsors would help. They might not be more responsive. Let them know you'll be more likely to use their products of we get a better sportscaster. They can put pressure on Learfield. Granted, I'm not planning on using Washburn-McReavy any time soon...

Or maybe we could just pass the hat to send Dave Lee to sportcaster camp.
