per Dane:

Gophers quarterback Mitch Leidner, who's flown under the radar for most of his life, walks around campus with a noticeable swagger.

That's to be expected for the signal caller of a rising Big Ten program. That's also a stark contrast to a few years ago when Leidner arrived on campus as an under-recruited player that stood behind quarterback Philip Nelson on the team's depth chart.

It's Leidner's team now, though, and a bulk of the success in Year 5 of head coach Jerry Kill's tenure will hinge on whether or not Leidner can take another step in the right direction.

"I feel a lot more confident," Leidner said. "I've got some great players around me and I think during this camp we've been getting on the same page and having some good practices. I can't say enough about the preparation going into Game 1 along with this whole camp. It's been a work in progress. It's definitely helped my confidence."

Go Gophers!!

Newsflash: QB play is important to football team.

If Leidner can average 250-275 yards all-purpose, this team wins the West. Easily.

Since Jerry arrived I have been begging for a qb who could complete a simple flat pass and a simple pass over the middle. Have yet to see that on a consistent basis

Oh my God! Can next Thursday just get here already??? Leidner's the key, Leidner's the key blah blah blah. How many fricken' articles are there going to be about this. Let's just kick the fricken' ball of already. I bet everyone thought Braxton Miller was "critical" to OSU's season before last year too.

Game day...is coming

I know....I mean it was such a well guarded secret. Thank god we have had like 10 different reporters tell us that improved play out of the QB position is going to be key to the offense improving this season.

And the funny thing is that I believe that offensive line play with be the difference in offensive improvement.

Better QB play will be a reflection of improved offensive performance.

...and he just keeps winning.

True, but last year we could have won every game with the exception of TCU with above average QB play. There is no doubt that the recruiting and development of that position is the difference between a good program and a great one. The Wisconsin game is the one that sticks out. Joel Stave was better and they won. Stave is not that good. Mitch needs to eliminate the stupid throws and the fumbles. He is the weak link in the chain
