Not sure if everyone noticed this in the Game Thread and I missed this play, but did you guys see this?

If this was already pointed out, just ignore.

At the very least, this makes it even after the horrible roughing the passer call on MN.

Someone is gonna have to explain this to me. Is he trying to get the o line to jump?

Defense can't emulate the snap count, so technically yes. I've never seen it called though. I feel like it's more etiquette than anything

Pretty much. Armstrong and Pelini have complained about this kind of thing earlier this year, and Armstrong was fuming on the sideline after this play.

As far as I know it's a penalty, though I think it has to be pretty blatant.

Simulating the cadence is illegal, whether it's saying "hike", clapping, or anything else that resembles a cadence. I'm not sure it really affect NEB though, looks like all their guys fired off the ball and we just blew up the play.

Their QB sure argued like it made a difference. We are damn lucky to not get an unsportsmanlike on that play.

And just to be clear, not trying to lessen the win or anything. We all know there were horrible calls in favor of the Cornhuskers. Just thought it was interesting.

Stupid, how about hike it with a verbal count like everyone else or quit complaining.
It's like the guys with long dreads complaining about getting tackled by their hair.

If it does not mimic the signals of the offensive team, there would not be an infraction. The defensive team cannot verbally mimic the cadence of the QB, but they are allowed to make defensive calls or call out when the ball it hiked. Generally if the offense does not react to the decoy, that call out would have to be considered a legitimate effort to communicate with teammates.

Unlv got called for it against us last year, I think. "Disconcerning signals" was the call.

this.

After further review, the play stands as called. Wilson is 4-5 yards behind the line of scrimmage. He could be barking defensive calls. Slants, twists, any thing. He is allowed to do that. The umpire is two yards behind and to the right of Wilson. He does not make any call. This is not a penalty.

Must have been what Armstrong was yelling to the refs about after that play. I thought he was pleading for a horse collar.

It doesn't appear that it affected the play in any way. Probably not a good thing to do and could have been called, but it doesn't look like any advantage was created by it.

In addition to what you said, If any Nebraska fans are gonna cry foul at this one instance, they should probably watch the second half again.

An exact comment made by the husker faithful in their gameday thread.

Guarantee the refs warned him and he didn't do it again.

Sounds like sour grapes to me. Armstrong got squashed on that play.

I just interviewed Damien and he said that he was just swatting a mosquito in a ninja suit.

No. He clearly clapped at almost the same moment the snap came. It was bush league. We don't need to win that way.

You are doing a lot of assuming. What was bush league was Armstrong on the ground crying like a kid with a scraped knee trying to oversell that ridiculous roughing the passer call.
