ESPN keeps rolling out their excellent and thorough previews on the conferences, offering us the Big East. Every time I consider that conference, I end up shaking my head at the sheer number of teams in the league. Should be interesting, as besides Villanova all the major players from last season have a lot to replace:

Buried in the national sports news are a couple items on players arriving on campuses who could have a significant impact on the upcoming season. We’ll start with Nimrod. Nimrod Tishman, that is, an import for Billy Donovan from Israel who will look to replace Nick Calathes who left for Greece at the point guard position. If he can provide solid point guard play, the Gators could be formidable.

The deep just keep getting deeper, at least where the Texas Longhorns are concerned. They found out J’Covan Brown, a top 2008 recruit who sat out last season, was finally cleared by the NCAA. Brown joins other talented newcomers Avery Bradley (ranked #1 by ESPN) and Jordan Hamilton who will team with holdovers Damian James, Dexter Pittman, and Justin Mason. Ohh, and Jai Lucas is eligible after transferring from Florida. Will Rick Barnes have enough minutes in the games to keep everyone happy? If so, they could be headed to Indianapolis.

Although this shouldn’t cause anyone outside of the Ivy League concern, it’s interesting to see that Tommy Amaker is shooting for the elite recruits at Harvard.
