per the link:

Southern is not a particularly good basketball team. On Pomeroy's site, the Jaguars are ranked No. 256 out of 351 teams. In fact, they are the sixth-ranked of seven teams with the word "Southern" in their name (Southern Miss, Charleston Southern, Texas Southern, Southern Illinois, Georgia Southern). They only have one win against Division I competition this year, an 87-78 win over North Florida.

But they are monumentally better than Champion Baptist. Here is what we could find out about Champion, who, by the way, eventually scored, it's now 57-6 at the end of the first half.

Hmmmm, Southern Methodist University, University of Southern California.

Cooper product Calvin Godfrey played a big part in the blowout with 17 pts and 15 boards. Can't say I agree with the sbnations conclusion that the game shouldn't count. It's not like Southern's really going to get an at-large bid based on the win. Just don't schedule multiple teams of that sort. They were at least somewhat competitive in their other games against d-1s.

Well, I think it's safe to say that Champion Baptist was . . . in . . . over . . . their . . . heads !?!?!

C'mon, some one had to say it !!!

It probably was a real . . . dunk . . . fest ?!?!?

Those damn directional schools always beating up on the little guys.:cool02:

I wasn't aware D-I schools could actually play teams below D-II. This is ridiculous.

For what it's worth, Southern U is probably nowhere near as bad as SBNation is portraying them. The Jaguars played in the NCAA Tournament last season and nearly became the first #16 seed to ever beat a #1 seed, falling 64-58 to Gonzaga (insert Zags joke here). And they've been relatively competitive this season vs. a brutal schedule, losing to the likes of Arizona (69-43), Baylor (81-56), Florida (67-53), and Marquette (63-56).

I'll give Southern U a pass for scheduling Champion Baptist. They earned a cupcake, albeit the cupcake of all cupcakes.

We all know Champion is eventually going to go D-1. I, for one, promise to be in the arena when they are playing for the National Championship. It is inevitable. It will be right there with the '69 Mets.

Exactly right, Holy Man. We all know we need more D-I basketball programs. ... 351 simply isn't enough.

Seems fair. Kinda pompous to name yourselves "Champion" without earning it.
