Our first (and ridiculously early & not to mention depressing) B1G Tournament bracket, if it were held today.

Sobering thought of the day? If Nebraska beats Penn State in Lincoln on Wednesday, the Gophers will hold last place all by their lonesome heading into Bloomington.

All times CST. Site is Bankers Life Fieldhouse in Indianapolis.

Thursday, March 8 (1st Round)
10:30 a.m. -- #8 Northwestern (1-2) vs. #9 Penn State (1-3)
12:55 p.m. -- #5 Illinois (3-1) vs. #12 Nebraska (0-4)
4:30 p.m. -- #7 Iowa (2-2) vs. #10 Wisconsin (1-3)
6:55 p.m. -- #6 Indiana (3-1) vs. #11 GOPHERS (0-4)

Friday, March 9 (Quarterfinals)
11 a.m. -- #1 Michigan State (3-0) vs. Northwestern/Penn State winner
1:25 p.m. -- #4 Michigan (3-1) vs. Illinois/Nebraska winner
5:30 p.m. -- #2 Purdue (3-1) vs. Iowa/Wisconsin winner
7:55 p.m. -- #3 Ohio State (3-1) vs. Indiana/GOPHERS winner

On the bright side, for the most part nowhere to go but up.

That will be 5th consecutive year the Gophers have qualified for the tournament under Tubby.

So you're telling me there's a chance.

Everything always comes back to Lloyd from Dumb and Dumber.

Tubby's formula to get to 20 wins this season:

12-19 (0-18) in the regular season
+1 (BTT first round)
+1 (BTT quarterfinal)
+1 (BTT semifinal)
+1 (BTT title game)
+1 (Tourney 1st round)
+1 (Tourney 2nd round)
+1 (Sweet 16 win)
+1 (Elite 8 win)

Lose to North Carolina in the Final Four to finish 20-20. Book it!

Who doesn't relish the chance to win the first ever #12/5 BTT game?

I still kinda wish BT hadn't caved in. Something about all but one team in the league ending their reg season with a loss that doesn't seem right.

Here is what we need for an interesting elimination tournament:

1. Only teams that go 0-fer in their regular season conference schedules are invited.

2. The team that wins in the first round is out, they are happy because they finally won a game, the loser advances. The winning teams' players get a blue ribbon and go home.

3. Continue step 2 for ensuing rounds until we are left with 2 teams who have still got 0 wins.

4. The Championship game's winner goes home happy because they finally won a game, and the winners each get a blue ribbon.

5. The Championship game's loser goes home with the Team Trophy, and little trophies or medals for each member of the losing team.

This way, everyone ends their respective seasons on a happy feel good note.

Kind of like a ribbon for participating.

Here is my idea instead of a single-elimination tournament.

After the B10 regular season...all the teams go to a neutral site. They play a complete round-robin. The team with the best record wins the tournament and therefore the league.

I think for the sake of time, you would need to break it down to 2 Divisions of 6 teams (Legends & Leaders), and play the other 5 teams in your division, plus a cross-over game versus your natural rival.

The winners from each division would square off in the title game.

I like it! Certificates of Participation...suitable for framing.

And all Certificates were protected and hermatically sealed in Mason Jars at Funk and Wagnalls. This is the same place that Johnny Carson's questions and answers were protected by Ed McMahon.

Carnac, have you devined the answer? Carnac: "The Big Ten". Unseal the envelope and the question is? Carnac: "Name the five finalists in the Miss Universe pageant".
