per CSN Chicago:

But Claeys isn’t just a Kill clone.

Most notably, Claeys made headlines this offseason by making changes to the coaching staff, which was almost unthinkable under Kill, who prided himself on bringing his assistants — including Claeys — along with him from Southern Illinois to Northern Illinois to Minnesota, crediting “we” for repeatedly turning programs around rather than “I.”

Claeys wasn't being selfish, of course, but his decision to make a change at offensive coordinator did raise a few eyebrows considering Matt Limegrover had been with Kill and Claeys since their days at Division-II Emporia State in in the late 1990s. Claeys also dispatched of quarterbacks coach Jim Zebrowski, who had been with the staff for six seasons.

The changes were not without merit, as the Minnesota offense has struggled to find consistent footing since Kill arrived. But with Kill so adamant about stability and longevity among his assistants, those two firings showed Claeys was ready to do things his way.

“I sleep pretty good. I don’t let things bother me, only worry about things I can control,” Claeys said. “But the thing is, being the defensive coordinator, on gameday, I was the one who was always responsible and in charge. And I always listened to guys on the staff and took their ideas all through the week, but I’m just a believer on gameday, on both sides of the ball, one guy has to be in charge. I think the kids got to see that, too, see who’s in charge. Coach (Kill) had it structured where it was Coach Z and Matt and him, and those three worked together to get things done on gameday. So I knew as soon as I took over, that’s something that I needed to be comfortable with, and the only way for me to be comfortable was to have one person in charge. So that’s why I decided to make that change.”

Go Gophers!!

If one person is not ultimately responsible, nobody is. Agree 100%.

Clearly and correctly stated. Football game day mgmt by committee is nuts. The proof was in the results. Go, Coach C!
