per CSN Chicago:

The Minnesota defense came up big last season in Evanston. The Cats out-gained the Gophers, and Trevor Siemian threw for 200-plus yards. But those big plays that just won Northwestern a game vs. Wisconsin? Minnesota had them, picking off Siemian twice and sacking him three times. The Gophers only allowed 17 points.

But even more fresh in the mind of Pat Fitzgerald than that game against these guys a season ago? The Gophers' last game this season, a win against Michigan, a 30-14 pounding in which that Minnesota defense was all over Wolverines quarterback Shane Morris all game long.

“They obviously had a great win at Michigan to get the (Little Brown) Jug. That was a huge win for their program and for their young men and for their staff, and it was impressive the way that they did it," Fitzgerald said Monday. "They did it. They went in, and they dominated all three phases. That’s what it looked like to me on tape, especially in the second half. To me, that was a statement win. Whatever that means, to me on tape it meant they went in there and physically took what they wanted. It was pretty impressive. One of the more impressive game films I’ve watched was their win against Michigan.”
