The next two years are absolutely pivotal in the future of Gopher revenue generating sports. The Regents need to make up their minds if they want the U to be a major player in NCAA sports. If so, they need to hire a president that understands that having solid Football and Basketball teams will help all areas of the University. Whether you like sports or not, people donate and get excited when they have good teams to brag about. Dead horse, I know. But, once the president is hired, we need to hire an athletic director that has experience hiring people that have a road map for success. Someone on this board mentioned a few days ago that Brewster's biggest problem was that he didn't stick to his convictions and was consequently chasing the wind. The new AD needs to be able to find coaches that have loyal assistants and work in systems that can be interchangeable. Not easy. If the U wants to concentrate on Academics, a la Northwestern, great. Just make up your mind. I feel that we talk a good game about having a strong sports program and academics but it seems just like window dressing to appease the casual fan. thoughts???
