Could the Vikings take Adam Weber

I'd rather see him go to Denver, and further cloud up their QB situation. I can just hear it (from the practice squad bleachers), WEBER TO DECKER!!

He deserves better than the Vikes.

If he went to Denver would Decker ask for a trade? ( I kid, I kid). Weber deserves to be drafted where he ends up being drafted. I don't think he is too good for any of the 32 NFL teams. Although if he ends up with the raiders, he'll be longing for the stability during his days in college, which is really saying something.

As a Gopher Fan, I wish him all the best for a productive and lucrative career!

As a Viking fan, I would only want him as a UDFA. Nothing personal, but there are other needs than a 3rd string QB for this season.

For a moment, when I saw UDFA, I saw "Uff Da". As in "The Vikings drafted Weber? Uff da!" Most people think that if he gets drafted, it will be in the 7th round, so at that point, I don't think it matters too much. I wish the NFL didn't drag this out over so long. I remember when the NFL draft had 12 rounds, and they didn't take so long.

I remember when the draft had 21 rounds and no one saw it.

Bart Starr was drafted in the 17th round, but scouting wasn't as sophisticated as it is today.

That was before ESPN paid the NFL $2 Billion a year to televise MNF, NO playoff games, and ....the draft. The draft will also get better ratings than the playoff games of either the NBA or NHL.

If they do, they do...if they don't they don't. I truly do not understand the distaste some here show toward Weber. Given all the garbage he has had to endure the past 4 years and the continual changes...I think he did better then could have been hoped for. He showed a whole lot of strength of character and composure given the lack of fan support and teams are definitely considering that in evaluating him.

Personally I would not mind MN either drafting him with a later round pick or if he does not get drafted, signing him as an UDFA and placing him on the PS for a couple of years to learn and develop.

I would think he'd be much happier away from Minnesota fans.

Yes,
take him with their next pick to back up Ponder. LOL, hehe, They better sign Kolb, or Hasslehoff or the Ship has sunk again for 5 more years. Ponder plays the bears and pack outside each year with elbow surgery? LMAO!

Vikes probably would not waste a draft pick on him now after picking up Ponder. They need help in too many other positions to give up a pick on him. Possibly sign him as a free agent if he is available after the draft.

100% agree. I watch more FSU football than 99% of Minnesotans. Ponder is Weber with a better supporting cast. Vikes are in big big trouble.

Ponder is better. He is more accurate and has a slightly better arm. He also has played in a similar system to the vikes. The supporting cast at FSU is not that much better than MN and is nothing like it was in the past. The negatives of Ponder are coachable (leading the receiver more). I also watch a lot of FSU football since they are my second favorite team.

Ponder is better. I don't believe that he's head and shoulders better, where it will justify the dozens of players that will be picked in between them. I'd take my chances with Weber and Fairley or Amukamara or anyone else the Vikings could have had. Ponder might be great, I just don't see any value taking him 12th.

Most people didn't see the value of Ponder at 12th either. I would have to know more to say he is head and shoulders better then weber but at a glance he appears ready to contribute nearly right away where as weber would be a serious project. Not saying weber would be terrible to have but at this point I don't think it would make any sense at all to pick 2 qb's in the same draft. At best the vikes might sign him as UDFA if he doesn't get picked at all.

The 2nd guess is always fun to express -- especially concerning the NFL draft. Since the Vikings did not have their 3rd round pick, they were limited to their flexibility in moving up to get Gabbert.
My take of it is that they realized that QB was a must in this draft. In a unique (lockout) situation in which no business can take place (i.e. Free Agent signings, trades involving veteran players, overall uncertainty when this is resolved and what the rules will be, I believe that intelligence is more important than ever factor in the new QB of the future for this season. How fast and how well prepared he becomes is huge in my opinion.
I am relieved that this new coach realizes that competetive teams need good QB play. I personally had hoped for Andy Dalton of TCU, but respect the decision to take Ponder with pick #12. They did not want to risk not getting either one . Ponder has more experience in the pro offense as I understand. I applaud the pick.

Weber may end up with a really good team as a backup. I believe that Peyton Manning knows him and possibly New England too has interest.

My thoughts exactly. I also would have liked Dalton but Ponder is ok.

Are people really suggesting weber is a first or second round pick with a better supporting cast?

Drugs are bad.
