Could the Minnesota Golden Gophers Be a Top 5 Team? | The Ron Johnson Show (video)

Surprised there's any skepticism at all that a 13-0, Big Ten Champion Gopher team would make the CFP. I think that's because at this point in the season, we always imagine 5-6 undefeated teams when in reality most or all of them will lose. At least one of Bama or Georgia will lose. NC State and Clemson play Saturday. USC, Ok State, and others are highly likely to take Ls. Let's hope one isn't the Gophers.

A 13-0 Big Ten Champion Gopher team, if it happened, would be no worse than a 2 seed, IMO and would be a lock to make it.

Zero unbeaten power 5 champs have ever been left out.
Only one, 1-loss, outright power 5 champ has been left out and they were left out for unbeatens and 1-loss power 5 champs.

A non conference champ has never jumped a zero or one less p5 conference champ

So I agree with you.

Would be awesome to go 13-0. Be number 1 in the AP and be left out of the playoff, then beat Washington in the rose bowl for a national championship in the AP. But that’s not going to happen.

UInder this scenario the Whiteout at PSU is even bigger and of course we close out at Madison.

Assuming the B1G Championship will be with UM or OH-IO State, that will be a worthy gauntlet to get to 13-0.

Big dreams go with big hopes. Need to beat Purdue first.

Undefeated USC, Clemson and Georgia/Alabama I think would have us 4th

If the Gophers go 13-0 I might explode. Closest thing I can relate to that potential elation was the 2002 Gopher hockey national championship.

I did not know he has a show. Learn something new every day...

Massey has us 6, Connelly has us 7...
Connelly is still way low on the Minnesota offense too. Lot of room for the Gophers to move up that ranking.

If we're being honest, Minnesota has looked like a championship team this year. I don't know if it's going to last but what they've done through the first four games is on par with a playoff- caliber team.

Have been trying not to voice that opinion because it seems kind of absurd, and the competition hasn't been great, but the Gophers look like a OSU / Alabama / Georgia type team through four games.

You don't go unbeaten in the Big Ten and not make the CFP.

That's ridiculous.
