This is purely hypothetical, but I was wondering if this is at all possible.

I keep reading that Keenum is seeking his 6th year of eligibility, which I didn't think he would be eligible for, but i'd imagine he'd be talking with people who knew more about this process than myself. So, for the sake of this hypothetical, lets assume that Keenum would be granted a medical hardship waiver and granted a 6th year of eligibility.

Now, here is where it might get interesting. If you remember, Jeremiah Masoli was allowed to transfer without sitting out a year because he had already graduated from Oregon and was "pursiong new academic study". Which essentially means that he had to intend to major in something or take something at Ole Miss that wasn't offered at Oregon.

Now, Keenum has already graduated and i'm sure that there would be something at the U not offered at Houston. So, he certainly would be eligible for this waiver (not forcing him to sit out a year when transferring).

He also has said that he wanted to return to school so that he can improve his draft stock. I would think that the opportunity to play in the Big 10 (more exposure, etc.) might be appealing to him.

So, yeah, I realize it's a bunch of what ifs:
(1) Sumlin being hired
(2) NCAA granting his medical hardship waiver
(3) Him not having to sit out a year (almost certain he would qualify for this)
(4) Him wanting to come to the U with Sumlin

...but it could be interesting.

PS: I have always been in the pro Gray crowd, I was just thinking of this when people were talking about a possible JuCo QB if we run a pass oriented spread next season (Leach, Sumlin, etc.).

As an infamous guy in town says: You are either on something or on to something.

It is interesting to think about. I like Gray too. But,this would seem to get Sumlin off and running.
Fun idea.

I'm going with 7 out of 10 with that scenario. Just kidding Bob. :D

That would be really harsh for Gray though, and I would feel very badly for him. He wants nothing more than to play QB, and to that end he's pretty much wasted the last two years here.

Whoever a new coach might bring in, I just want to see Gray get a fair shot at the job.

No, I realize it's a stupid thing to think about, I was just bored and was looking up stuff on Houston and I kept running into articles about Case Keenum seeking a 6th season.

As for why he would leave Houston, well, he probably wouldn't. The argument for him leaving is actually what he's said about his reasons for wanting to get a 6th season. He wanted more exposure to pro scouts (Big 10 network, ESPN, etc.) because they thought he might have simply been padding his stats against inferior competition.

For a guy (who thinks he will be an NFL QB someday), maybe the lure of showcasing your talents against Nebraska, Michigan, Iowa, Wisconsin, and USC is appealing?

This post is like me wondering what Natalie Portmann would wear on our honeymoon.

(Sorry, that sounded funny in my head.)

Okay, Ill play the game.:) Sumlin didn't recruit him, he is from Texas and Kevin Kolb, Andre Ware, David Kingler all got drafted by showcasing their talents at Houston. Finally would you risk your health behind our line and trust our wr to catch the ball?

I think they hired the last guy because they felt he'd bring a couple of players with him.

Nope, I sure wouldn't. I think his best bet is to stay at Houston. I was just saying that all of the articles talk about how Keenum would need to do well in the Senior Bowl to show that he wasn't just building gaudy numbers against weakened competition.

Like I said, I was more joking when I brought this up. More so than anything I was just trying to show how this could be the peculiar circumstance where a kid (like Mosoli) could come to the Big 10 with his coach. I don't think he will even get a 6th year granted, and even if he did, I don't think he will nor should come with Sumlin. (in reality).

To the guy that said Brewster was hired to land Clint and Nolan? Are you serious? You think that played a large part in the decision to hire Brewster? I also went out of my way on the first post to say that it should play no part in the hiring process. However, you really think Brewster was hired in the hopes of landing Clint Brewster and Nolan Brewster?

If the gophers hired Brewster to try to get his sons, why didn't we just hire Cam Newton's dad? We could have paid him legally cause he wouldve been our coach.

I would assume the only way that Keenum could transfer without having to sit out a year would be if he started a grad school that was offered by the U but not Houston. I think he has gotten plenty of exposure where he is.
