Congratulations Oregon

Good to know but somewhat inevitable to most all watching.
I was thinking there was someway the Ducks could get left out IF:

Wash beat Ore
Ind lost to Oh St but beat Pur
Ohio St lost to Mich
Penn St beat Minn & Mary

That would mean a 3-way tie of Oregon, Indiana & Penn St, all with 1 loss and no head-to-head matchups.

Is making the Big Ten Championship Game an auto-bid?

The tweet says they are "locked into the playoff"

What if they got whooped by Washington then also got beat bad in the B1G title game? Or had something happen like FSU last season where their QB blows out a knee. Are they in CFP no matter what, even with 2 bad (theoretical) losses?

Probably not a lock but hard to leave an SEC or B1G team that makes conference championship out. They would have their second loss in an extra game played.

That's a mind twister. I think that scenario would come down to tie-breaker #2. Oregon beat the Buckeyes while Indiana and PSU lost to them.

Tiebreaker Order:

  1. Head-to-head matchups
  2. Record against common conference opponents, in order of conference record
  3. Record against common opponents with the best conference record and proceeding through common opponents based on their order of finish within the conference standings
  4. Best cumulative conference winning percentage of all conference opponents
  5. SportSource Analytics (team Rating Score metric) ranking following the regular season
  6. Random draw among tied teams conducted by the Commissioner or designee
