I just wanted to put a bow on the 2009 season and say congrats to Coach Brew and Joel Maturi and everyone associated with the program. We are heading in the right direction without question and I am proud of the way we have made Tempe our second home qualifying for the Insight Bowl on a yearly basis and bringing home the second place trophy for a third time (something OU, Texas, Ohio State and Iowa haven't accomplished)! In my mind it goes Rose, Orange, Fiesta, Insight and Sugar as the top 5 most prominent bowls (in that order).

I also feel fortunate that under Brewster the past 3 years we have a winning record in the Big Ten against Michigan State (1-0) and Purdue (2-1). While others point to the fact that we are 0-3 against OSU, Iowa, Wisconsin, 0-2 against Michigan, 0-1 against Penn State and 1-2 against Northwestern and Illinois, at least we do not have a losing record to Indiana, who we are 1-1 against the past 3 seasons!

And while I hear that Brew is more recruiter than coach, I would like to point out that he seems to be pretty good at making coaching adjustments as we went from losing to a FCS team in NDSU in 2007 to beating one in SDSU in 2009!

Other highlights include: not losing 55-0 to anyone this year, only losing 3 of our last four games instead of 5 straight like we lost in 2008 to close the season, winning six times as many games in 2009 than we did in 2007, making sure the players had a good time at Dave and Buster's in Tempe, almost covering the spread against Iowa State, posting 1 2-game winning streak and 4 1-game winning streaks, and finally, making sure everyone knows that we have more great recruiting classes coming in 2010, 2011 and 2012 under Brew.

Is it too much to hope for more than this in 2010? We can only hope!

Happy New Year!

I couldn't be more pleased with this topic.

Greatest 5th post I have ever seen. Thank you, I needed that! Happy new year gopherholers!

This post was outstanding. However, it may have been a little too loud for the folks in St. Anthony Village. If you could keep it to a dull roar, that would be very, very good.

Huh? I don't follow... What am I missing?

And a big THANKS to therealdeal for all his constructive input on this board throughout the season!

It all has to start somewhere. And as we all know the number of posts is indicative of the quality of posts.

I saw this commentary and was compelled to get on the board.
Simply put, your post is brilliant.

Hear hear. This dude speaks the truth.

Let's not overlook the biggest newsmaker this season in the Gopher football program: Goldy. I mean, we're still talking about what he did on the gridiron at Penn State. What a blessing it is to have some on-field exploits to remember from the 2009 season (outside of Decker's incredible TD catch vs. Cal and the first Rouser from the band before the Air Force game).

Don't forget Brewster's perfect record in trophy games. I mean, it's incredible. He hasn't won a single one - 0-9.

And...I sure am glad the students did their part, filled up the student section and brought the noise and rowdiness for every game. I mean, with a brand new, bank-named, on-campus stadium, this is so critical to establishing the "12th man" factor that will make our house the most hostile environment in the Big Ten. Plus, it sure is nice they're forging new traditions that will keep us warm on cold fall mornings.

Long time proud Goph, first time poster, unbelieveably hilarious and accurate thread, got me compelled to get on here.

99% of CFB fanbases define a great season by wins and losses and bowl game performances. I believe that 100% of the CFB coaches and ADs use the same definition. There are probably one or two of the regular posters on here who were alive when the Gophers last had a truly great season.

In keeping with the theme of this thread, The Gophers beat a team that took an SEC team to a New Years Day Bowl OT and only lost because their kicker was hurt, AND the Gophers only lost by three points to the, as of the time of this post, the only Big Ten team to have won their bowl game so far.

If MSU wins, you guys will be able celebrate yet another REALLY GREAT SEASON!!!! Bernie would be proud, and he was almost as good of a recruiter as Brew is.

This post was excellent. Coach Brew would like to know if he can quote this trememdous and widely-read post on Play4Brew.com. It sums up his thoughts on this wonderful season almost to a T.

When Wisconsin wins one national title, you can talk about great seasons and who was alive during them.

I'm going to guess that your parents weren't alive when the Gophers last played in a Rose Bowl.

You'd be wrong on that, but the beauty of this game is I don't have to guess whether or not your great grandparents were alive when the Badgers last won a national title. See how that works?
