OK, I will try again after the mods deleted my earlier comment.

Your credibilty is zero because you did not realize that Illinois is in the B1G.

What, is Illinois chopped liver or something?

Haha, take it easy on him Doc. My credibility has been 0 since long before he left Illinois off the list.

Ya, I hear ya man. The amazing thing is, all I said was his post was bogus because he forgot about Illinois being in the Big Ten, therefore he had no credibility. But, oh well, I have been turned down for a touchdown at a brothel before also, so it is no big deal.

I could see Iowa, Purdue, Northwestern, and Illinois finishing in any order from 7-10, possibly even up to 5 or 6 if one of the teams projected in the top half of the conference doesn't live up to potential. I see the top 6 making the tournament, and 1 or 2 of the previous 4 teams I mentioned going to the tourney.

So are you trying to make up for the OP leaving Illinois out by listing them twice? I guess it is harder to judge where UW will be now that Gasser is done for the year - I felt they would be #2, but now with that injury it's going to be tough for them to finish there.

Top 7 make NCAA. Illinois just misses as one of "first 4 out."

With 5 teams ranked ahead of us in the pre-season polls and 3 or the top 5 teams in the Nation being from the Big Ten, imagine if we did win the Big Ten.

We have not been able to stay injury free or trouble free, but I believe is we can, there is very good chance it could happen. I believe that playing the kind of non-conference schedule that we have this year, will help prepare us for the Big Ten, even though we could lose 2 or 3 games during that stretch.

SS, I would pick Illinois to make the tournament this year, and I'm thinking my #7 pick may be a bit low. They tanked last year after a promising first 2 months of the season, and I believe John Groce will do a tremendous job there. So instead of tanking this season they will be tougher and play up to their potential - there's no rational explanation for Illinois being able to win against #1 seed MSU and F4-bound OSU and then being routed against last-place Nebraska. Clearly Weber lost that team last year, but before he lost the team the players showed they were good enough to be an NCAA tournament team. Now they lost Leonard, but they have basically everyone else back and add a graduate transfer who should help to replace his loss. A lot of guys on that team were 4-star recruits, so the talent is there. I'd bet on Groce to get the most out of his team and get them back to the tournament. A lot of people are picking Iowa to be the rebound team, but I think there could be a better case to be made for Illinois since Iowa was so bad defensively it's hard to imagine their defense will do a 180 from last year. I think it's more logical to expect Illinois to correct their problems from last year.

Good points. I agree with you about Groce. He wasn't the sexy hire Illinois fans wanted, but he'll do fine. He did great work at Ohio. Won't be surprised at all if the Illini are better this year than they were last season.

Why do you all think Purdue will be this bad? I was dreaming that my two schools in B1G do well but from what I read here Purdue seems to be weak this year. I hope that Mat Painter will do his great coaching one more time.

I think the Gasser injury along with Taylor graduating will really hurt the Badgers. I'm also not sold on Indiana, I think the regular blue bloods (MSU and OSU) will finish at the top once again.

You know they took a huge step back when they lost Johnson and Moore, and even with Hummel starring they only managed a #10 seed last year (aka #36-40 in the country). Without him, it's hard to imagine an improvement. Not only did they lose Hummel, though, their second-best player Jackson is also gone. There are a lot of talented players on the roster, but largely unproven and clearly the ones that are coming back didn't help the stars carry them to anything special last year. They were #6 in the B1G, and Iowa and Minnesota, two teams that finished below PU last year, are expected to be better this year. Illinois also is likely to have a rebound year. So #9 or #10 is not an unreasonable projection.

Unfortunately, you are right. Do you think that Purdue will be a 3-point shooting team like Michigan? They do have some really good shooters, don't they?

Go Gophers

Purdue was definitely a perimeter-oriented team last year. They may be a more balanced team this year, but I think they will be similar to last year in terms of being pretty reliant on the outside shot. One thing that concerned me from looking over Purdue's performance this summer was there were a lot of turnovers - Purdue's offense last year was aided by a tremendously low turnover average, and I don't think their new guys are going to be as efficient as the guys they were replacing were. Purdue is going to have to count on frosh PG Ronnie Johnson to provide a steady hand on offense, and if they lose him then things could really fall apart. They have the talent to potentially make the tournament, but they will have to have multiple newly eligible guys play really well to do that.
