per the Post Dispatch:

Jack Park, a leading Ohio State football historian, checks in each week during the college football season with a retrospective about the Buckeyes.

Ohio State will visit Minnesota on Saturday afternoon for what will be the team’s last road game of the regular season. The Golden Gophers return to OSU's schedule after a three-year absence.

The Buckeyes have faced Minnesota fewer times than they have most other members of the Big Ten -- Saturday’s game will be the 51st in the series. In contrast, the Ohio State-Michigan game in two weeks will be the 111th between the teams.

Big Ten teams traveled by train during the early years, and the distance between Columbus and Minneapolis had an impact on the number of games scheduled between the schools. Only 10 games were played against the Golden Gophers during the Buckeyes’ first 52 seasons in the league, from 1913 to 1964.

The Buckeyes are 42-7 (.857) all time against Minnesota. Additionally, OSU’s 52-10 victory over the Gophers in 2010 was vacated as part of NCAA sanctions. Ohio State is 22-3 in Columbus and 20-4 in Minneapolis. The Buckeyes have won 35 of the past 37 and have not lost at Minnesota since 1981.
