Iverson; 17minutes, 3-4 FGM-A, 3-3 FTM-A, 3 REB, 1 AST, 2 BLKS

Nice line, but more importantly he looked like a basketball player out there tonight. Someone that could carry the load if Sampson got injured. I understand why Sampson is ahead of him, but he is starting to look like a competent back-up and/or guy who could start next to Ralph if needed.

Big Colt!

How do you not love Colton Iverson?

This guy is the only player resembling a physical player on the roster right now and it's not close. Even against an overmatched Iowa team today, Sampson was pushed all over the place by Cole. Iverson is a nice physical player that doesn't mind mixing it up, taking it to the basket when he's not doubled up, and those shots in and around the lane are going to start dropping for him next year and beyond.

He's only a sophomore and he's only going to get better. On a side note, 3-for-3 from the FT line today?

I'm a Colt 45 fan too, and believe strongly that we're all going to enjoy his continued development in his junior season. Think Mike Peplowski from MSU circa 1991.

Both he and Ralph have had their ups and downs this year, but I am loving the progress our big men are making. Their senior seasons should be a joy to watch.

Colt 45 is average against bad teams, and terrible against good teams. Facts are facts and numbers don't lie. But the good thing is he is still young.

It was against IOWA. Colton played well. It was against IOWA.

He did play well against Purdue recently (4 points, 8 boards, 2 assists in 20 minutes). Purdue seems like a pretty good team, with an All-Big Ten center. He's a developing big man, the inconsistency is there, but so is improvement.

I think Colton is going to be a force next year. Many on here have ripped him a new one, saying he would only get quality minutes at a bad D2 school...yet you're going to start eating your words over the next year. His development only continues to expand each game IMO...it often takes time for huge centers to grow into their bodies.

Let's not get ahead of ourselves here. It was Iowa. Colton has done very little in B10 play this year. I think saying he is going to be "a force" is quite a stretch. I could, however, see him contributing some more, but he doesn't have the skill set to be a force.

"Force" is subjective...and I guess we'll just have to agree to disagree.

I'm going to be here next year and the year after to keep tabs on his progress...will you?

When I think of a force, I think of a player that can take over a ball game.

Kind of an odd question, but yes, I'll be watching the games next year. Should be interesting to see where he (and the other players for that matter) are at.

"Facts are facts and numbers don't lie" sounds like something an insurance salesman said to me once. He forgot that his facts weren't necessarily mine and that I could cleverly twist his numbers to get them to prove whatever point I wanted, just like he did.

Liars can figure and figures can lie. As with any set of statistics, one can use any sample space to make his/her point. Facts are facts, yes. And opinions are just opinions, but coming from experts like some posters on GH, opinions get confused as facts by the poster. And numbers do lie if you want them to.

I listened to the game on the radio, and Spencer was raving about how good Iverson has looked in practice the last week. He mentioned that the tides may have turned between Iverson and Sampson. Apparently Colton has been taking it to RSIII in practice. He also said multiple times to watch out for Iverson in the BTT. Take this for what it is worth, it did come from Mr. Fadeaway Jumper...

Your side note - IS - hard to believe :)

I pulled Trevor Winters sophmore stats: 54% fg, 3.5pts, 3.1 reb. Colton as a sophmore: 42%fg, 4.2 pts, 4.4 reb per game. Trevor was a very servicable center, and even Played in the NBA. As a senior Trevor, on a great team-averaged: 3.5pts and 3.3 rebounds. Colton is not a division 2 player. Any team in the Big ten would take him hands down. I could easily see him getting 8-10 pts, 6-9 reb, a game by his senior season. He just needs to work on his hand cordination and his free throws.

Good comparison MM - I'd go far enought to say I think Colton could average 10 and 9 his senior year if he can get his FT % into the 70s...

A lot of mixed feelings on this kid around here. I definitely agree though that ANY of the Big Ten teams would snatch him up if he were to transfer.

Not a bad thought

I think some people need to realize that how good Colt is and can be is RELATIVE. I think anybody expecting him to take over games on a regular basis and average double-doubles is just not being realistic, for the simple fact that there are hardly ANY true post players that do that anymore.

How many true post players excelled in the Big Ten this year? I can't think of one (I wouldn't consider JaJuan Johnson a true post player). I think Colt will be one of the more effective and efficient post players in the conference over the next two years. I think his junior and senior years there would not be many teams that wouldnt' really like to have his services.

Just my two cents...

I would trust something out of the mouth of Charles Manson before anything Spencer Tollackson had to say regarding the game of basketball. I used to enjoy listening to the Bball coverage with Lynch and the priors but he is like listening to a college intern. Anyway, on the topic of Iverson, you can't teach hands and Iverson has none. He could be a good banger down low and rebounder and that is something you can learn with experience. That in itself is worth holding out hope for his improvement. I think he will be a good asset for the team his last two years.

Yea no hands on that lob over the oppostite shoulder on the High Low from Hoffarber????

I wouldnt say Colton has good hands right now, but it is something that could be improved over 4 years. I see improvement in this year alone.

Yeah, and the polished hands that couldn't gather the ball and get off a chipper in the closing moments of the Purdue game, which most likely would have given us a win. Or the multiple passes he doesn't haul in from Hoffarber on the High Low. He doesn't have good hands and probably won't get much better. That doesn't mean he can't be a solid player in other aspects. I look forward to watching him progress next year.

I would normally not put much faith in what Mr. Trippe-spin brick shot has to say, but Ralph is SOFT. Speaking of bad hands, RS3 cannot seal his guy and scoop up a bounce pass.

Would anybody seriously want Colton to transfer?
He is our most aggressive player. We need one. Sampson didn't play well yesterday because he was being pushed around. Colton doesn't get pushed around.
Only time will tell if he can develop a little more finesse.

Re: Iverson

I've been telling people lately that Iverson needs to go with what God gave him and not worry too much about what God didn't give him. Play within himself; play to his strengths. When he tries to do too much or tries to be RSIII, it just doesn't work, but he can look like a basketball player when he goes with what he's good at.

Against Iowa, he just seemed so much more aware of what was going on around him than he was at Michigan. Maybe part of it is focus.

Agreed Ogee.

This may have been said, but if you gave Hoffarber his "sophomore slump" do you think you can give one to Iverson? That young man is strong, not afraid to mix it up in the post and with a good big man's camp this summer should come back to dominate in the Big Ten next season.

Sure would hate to see him on a "transfer list" cause he would be a big loss for this team.

Why the rip on Colton? If anyone is fair game, it's Sampson. He has virtually disappeared the last two games and Michigan's Sims owned him.

Sure Iverson's stats were against Iowa but so were Sampson's. Iverson has clearly outplayed RS the last two games.

Colton belongs and will only get better. He is a tough, agressive player which is something RS is not.
