I have to ask our rules experts about the call on Colt at 15:55 of the second half.

Colt was back to the basket. Sullinger was defending him and right on his back leaning on Colt. Colt raises his arms straight up over his head and Sullinger flops like a duck shot out of the sky.

Not only do the refs call a foul on Colt but they check the replay to see if it was a flagrant elbow!

Can't a guy raise his arms up? Doesnt he get ANY space?

Colt seems like he his black balled by the refs.

Opinions?

Didn't get to see the replay at the game, but the elbow foul seemed unintentional and harmless to me. And yes, it really does seem like Colt gets a lot of unfair calls.

The announcers said the refs can't allow the defender to hang on him like that.

I think more than anything it has to do with Colt being clumsy as hell. He gets himself in those situations because he can't move around very well

The opposing coaches are lobbying the refs even before tipoff to watch for those things from him. Tubby needs to send some tapes into the Big Ten to stop this BS. However:

A junior big doing this: No points, one rebound, 4 fouls, 5 turnovers in 14 minutes.

He hasn't gotten a call since Green from MSU faked and flopped last year and probably never will unless the Big 10 changes about 50% of their refs.

I have been a colt fan forever, but I am beginning to think he isnt smart about playing the post. That and he will never flop. But guys basically get physical with him, he pushes back, they flop, and he gets a foul. Is it fair... NO! But a player needs to adapt. Do the same thing to them. Don't bully all the time set a guy up. Lean on him for a second then step back and watch the post player travel. It's time for a little finesse.

Finesse is not in Colt's repertoire at the present time.

They need to add a flop rule like the NHL did. Two flops in a row when Colton never even touched the guy with his elbow. It's beyond ridiculous. I wonder what these pathetic refs think when they look at the replay to see if it was flagrant and then realize that they got suckered. Maybe eventually they will catch on.

I would urge Iverson to declare for the draft and see if he has any takers. Refs clearly aren't going to allow him to play the college game.

Under a current point of emphasis any contact with an elbow is a violation and if the elbows are moving faster than the line between the shoulders the violation is considered flagrant.

In this case Jared was leaning over onto Colt's back. Colt merely "stood up" causing Jared to flop backwards. If Jared places his face near Colt's elbow and Colt moves his elbow, is that a foul on Colt?

Makes zero sense to me.

A player should have a right to his vertical space, IMHO.

I was watching the game. Rule book is fairly clear in this case. I agree something should have been called before the elbow ever got near JS. During one MIAC game earlier this year I saw the same thing called (including flagrant, two FT's and possession) on two consecutive possessions. The rule is another offshoot of heightened concussion awareness, right or wrong.

I have been watching college basketball for many years and the only consistent thing I see refs do is confer with each other simply to validate the call that was made (save for the occasional ball possession overruling) right or wrong. "Yes Eddie. Great call. You were spot on on that. The coach is just playing you." "That's the way you saw it too isn't it Bill? Yeah I'm right again."

To bastardize a Blues Brothers 2000 quote:

Finesse is something, I regret to say, which has not been, is simply not, nor will ever be a part of this man's repertoire.
