Colorado announces its coach: An NFL tight ends coach

You really can't make it up.
The kicker will be he will probably end up being a pretty solid hire IMO

It is ironic, but Gopher fans are probably the only ones getting a kick out of it. Embree was a CU assistant for almost a decade, it's really not the same situation at all.

In any case, the most creepy thing about the story is McCartney's racial quotes. The man needs to get out of 1950 and keep his mouth shut. Yikes. What's next on his agenda, flying to Washington to rally with McCain and stop DADT from being repealed?

My favorite part of this is that CU is denying the reports, presumably until an official announcement. Isn't that exactly what happened here?

From another Denver article... interesting tie to MN

Bieniemy, a source said, suggested during his interview that if he were hired as head coach, some of the positions on his staff could be filled by:

Offensive coordinator — Embree.

Running backs (or another position) — current CU running backs coach Darian Hagan and/or former Colorado State tailback and current Notre Dame assistant Tony Alford.

Offensive line: California O-line coach Steve Marshall, a former CU assistant (2000-01).

Defensive coordinator: University of Arizona co-defensive coordinator Greg Brown, a CU assistant for two stints.

Linebackers: Oakland Raiders defensive assistant Greg Biekert, a former Buffs standout.

Defensive line: Kanavis McGhee, a former Buffs second-team All-American. [KGM's father]

Defensive secondary: current CU assistant Ashley Ambrose.

McCartney encouraging Colorado to expand diversity in coaching is both laudable and surprising but he does sound a bit dated in the way he puts things. I don't think I see it being a sign of bigotry at all though.

Wasn't Biekert a former Viking?

Perhaps his intentions are good in this case, but his comments were still unnecessary. And you don't have to look far to realize that his past comments on gays, etc. caused many of the faculty to campaign against his re-hire. For him to jump in and be the news breaker and make the comments he made (it was never about me it was about setting the table for a black coach') was creepy if you ask me. Brewster parallels aside, I don't think this guy needed McCartney to vouch for his candidacy.
