Anyone know how they decide where this is and if the schedule is a week to week thing or set before the season starts?

They are going to be in Chestnut Hill (Boston College) before their match up with Florida State. I am a bit surprised by this, especially with some other games going on. This is an ACC game, while USC-Cal play, LSU-Georgia, etc.

I am also bit surprised they aren't here in MN for one game this season. With a new stadium and some fun rival games, it would have been awesome to have them here once, especially for the Gopher-Badger game Saturday.

they probably made that decision before FSU got owned by South Florida last week....now their regretting it.

Although, Chestnut Hill is pretty close to Bristol, CN (espn hq) so that probably helps too.

Right on. They pick the Gameday site 12 days in advance. As it was, this was a very questionable choice. But Free Shoes's loss to West Florida makes this game irrelevant. Except that it still promotes ESPN's favorite cause: the almost-dead idea of major college football in the Northeast.

The choice also shows that Gameday pays a lot of attention to what happened last year. Boston College won the division over FSU last year. But with FSU destroying Wisconsin in a bowl game, they looked to be on the way back to prominence - and headed to the ACC championship.

But ESPN's perfect storyline is destroyed again- because by week 4 it has become clear that ACC football is still basketball on grass. The strongest ACC teams are still .500-finishers in the better BCS conferences. So no one cares about the ACC Champion. And no one cares about the Orange Bowl.

If Wisconsin had played a BCS-conference opponent and won, or Minnesota had beat Cal Gameday likely would have considered heading to Minnesota.

I'm glad they aren't coming. I like our gameday the way it is, and no one needs to see how cold it's going to be this Saturday morning. Also, it will be fun to hear them try to explain why we should give a crap about the ACC.

They chose the BC site to honor a former BC player who has cancer.

A big reason they are going to BC is because of Mark Herzlich, their linebacker who's battling cancer. There's a big benefit for him on Saturday and everyone is being asked to wear Gold. Occasionally Gameday goes away from the best matchup of the weekend...like when they cover Army Navy or that D3 game a year or two ago.

Interesting question. I have no clue how they decide. After the following in an earlier post 'If Wisconsin had played a BCS-conference opponent and won, or Minnesota had beat Cal Gameday likely would have considered heading to Minnesota,' I started to wonder if they factor in conference affiliation; in other words, would GameDay in Happy Valley last Saturday affect the chances for another Big10 team hosting the next weekend?

Sort of related - I was surprised that ESPN wasn't at the Virginia Tech/Miami game last Saturday. They obviously must not always go for the best matchup.

Nice, I'll have to make sure to DVR that, ESPN did the right thing there.

Is he a "former" player? Do you mean that b/c with the type of cancer he has its unlikely he'd be able to return to the game? I think he would have a year left if he returned?

I didn't know about the BC cancer story and thing it is a great angle. Just curious in general how they make the choices about where it is.

Yeah. If only we had a program the caliber of BC, or some sort of inspirational player who's battled a life-threatening disease...

From things I had read, I thought it sounded like him returning was a longshot. That's why I went with former player.
