College Football OT Rules

When they go to 2 pt conversions, it should be more than one play. How about a best of 3 each OT instead of just 1? And then don’t have these massive breaks in between each attempt. Just wind the play clock right away like a regular play.

If it were up to me, it would be:
1st OT: play from the 50
2nd: from 25
3rd: from 10
4th to end: three 2 pt conversation attempts per OT

Better idea. Same idea but after 3 overtime leg it end in a tie
Let them go for 1 in all overtime periods

Most of the time someone would go for 2 to avoid a tie anyways

NFL rules are not any better.
I will disagree with you there.

The only thing I still don't like about the NFL rules is that I would like each team to be guaranteed one possession, no matter what.

They got closer, with needing it to be a TD for sudden death, but it's still not all the way where I'd prefer.

1st OT: start at 25
2nd OT: start at 25, go for 2 on TD
After that, game ends in a tie
Don’t even make them go for two
Let someone go for a tie

Ryan day going for a tie against Michigan would be delicious

May as well just do Rock-Paper-Scissors after the 5th OT.

I like the idea of backing it up to the 35 or 40. Increases the risk of the miss but still near fg range. 50 is kind of weird as you’re going for it on the first 4th anyway (kickers routinely aren’t kicking 60 yarders in the NCAA) as you aren’t going to punt it. Though yes I agree with you you should be having to get a first down to have a decent shot at a fg, not just basically saying game over if the first team misses their first kick

I agree with this.
My biggest changes in terms of football rules would be:

College - go to the NFL OT rules (with guaranteed possessions though) and if it ends in a tie, it ends in a tie.

NFL - go to the college rules for defensive PI (15 yards rather than spot of foul) and one foot in bounds on a reception.

Move it back to the 40.
Don't force teams to go for 2.
3 possessions max for each team. End in a tie otherwise.

OT should be first team that gets defensive or ST stop wins. Alternating 2 point conversions dumb. Should be first team to lead by touchdown or Field goal wins after the alternating try's.
