College Basketballs Best Arena Tournament

this "tournament" lost all credability with me when I was looking at it and saw Michigan and Chrysler arena on there. That place is horrible.

The most lopsided of all the brackets right now is Rupp Arena v. Kohl Center. It's something like 90% for Rupp Arena.

Some of the buildings on this are just terrible. The travesty is that some like Chrysler is on there, but Hinkle Fieldhouse is no where to be found.

Regardless of credibility of some of the entrants, go vote for the Barn. Currently trailing Mizzou Arena.

The Barn has come roaring back and opened a short lead.

KEEP VOTING!

We're up 51-49 after my vote...oh, and by the way, Crisler had no chance against Vanderbilt's Memorial Gym; having been to both, there's no contest. Having said that, neither of them could hold a candle to the Barn.

It looks like they have The Barn seeded as the #10 arena in the country.

1. Duke
2. UNC
3. UK
4. KU
5. Oklahoma State*
6. UCLA
7. Indiana
8. Texas A&M
9. Pitt
10. Minnesota

*Okie Lite at #5 seems odd: it could be Louisville if they were inconsistent in their application of the brackets

Ok St plays in one the oldest arenas in the country - built in 1937 IIRC. It's got a unique lay out with the tiers near the court and what I've seen on TV in my relatively short life, they've always had a pretty solid atmosphere in Stillwater. Being seeded five might be high, but a lot of people who are unaware of the charms of the Barn probably think Minnesota being at 10 is high as well.

We'll get dusted by Assembly Hall in rd 2...all the Peegs freaks will vote us down

We're still up.

Showed my bias, voted for all B10 & B12 schools, no ACC or BEast.

This may just be my ignorance showing, but do Pitt and Texas A&M have particularly appealing arenas?

I think the Petersen Events Center (Pitt) tends to get pretty rowdy. Solid student section, intimate setting. I think they deserve to be up there - though any top 10 is debatable.

I'm with you on Texas A&M though. Was surprised to see their arena so highly ranked. The one thing I recall from watching televised games is that the stands seem to go straight up the walls there. It reminded me of the baseline stands at Clemson's Littlejohn Coliseum.

Didn't Pitts bb arena take the place on campus where the football stadium once stood? If I'm right they don't just on principle.
Secondly no new target center wanna be should be on this list (kohl center).

The Pit vs. Memorial Gymnasium

There'd be some good matchups in this thing. Looking at the brackets, I'd have a title-game showdown of The Pit (New Mexico) vs. Memorial Gymnasium (Vandy). Have been to The Pit and it's the real deal, and Vandy is an arena that looks really unique, one I've always wanted to see in person. In terms of tradition it's hard to leave out Cameron Indoor, the Phog, the Palestra & Assembly Hall, but it's all about matchups when it's a one-and-done.;)

Seems to me that this has a lot more to do with the PROGRAM than the arena. Not?
That's the way these popularity contests usually go.

I remember a few years back during one of the Viking's down years, they were voted as one of the very worst franchises in all of sports. Yet, they have a huge fanbase and lots of history, so what gives? Oh wait, I know, they had an awful season, so that must make them a bad franchise. Yeesh.

I guarantee that the Gopher football stadium next year will be nowhere on the list of top stadiums in the country. Not that it won't be a tremendous stadium, but there are too many elite programs whose stadiums, no matter how good they actually are, would be considered "better"; you know, just because. Is the Barn actually a great arena? I'd say yes - the uniqueness, the history, the "stage"; is it also not so great in many ways too though, probably the two biggest being the awful sightlines and limited seating. The lighting in there is none too great either.

call me crazy but i actually like the lighting in there. It is a little dim or something i dont know which i think adds to the atmosphere a bit.

you are right about the location of the peterson events center. i've gone their to see se highschool basketball, nice cozy place, not all that big. i was at their old on campus arena which they still have erect (fizgerald field house i think was the name) that place wad a dump! but it had a nice atomosphere to it, only sat about 7,000 (if that). at that time they played all their big big east games at the hockey arena, which i believe is now the oldest arena in all of pro sports. beleive the penguins are in the process of getting a new one!

Mellon Arena, which is the rink you're referring to, is definitely the oldest enclosed arena being used for pro sports in the US. It was built in 1961. The Penguins are making a move to a new facility though, and when that happens, the torch will be passed to Madison Square Garden, which was built in 1968. If you open it up to stadiums in general though, Fenway Park and Wrigley Field obviously jump to #1 and #2, respectively, on this list.

Agreed. There is a yellowish color to it too which gives the arena a warm feeling when you watch a game.
