There will be a buzz tonight when the Gophers host the Wolverines but the bottom line is that college BB is all about March. And the BIG is so good this year that any of the top 5 teams in the conference may have a good chance at going deep in the NCAAT. That is my prediction.

And it is very possible that the loser of tonight's game may still end up with a higher seed in the NCAAT. It all depends on which team finishes the season stronger. I know many Gopher fans on this board are expecting a victory tonight, but UM could see Minnesota on a neutral site in the BIG Tournement. IMO this would be a better test of which team is better since Minnesota does not play at UM this year.

Don't worry johnny, the majority of Gopher fans think very highly of your Michigan Wolverines. I'd say about 33% of Gopher fans thing Michigan is straight up better than Minny. Another 33% think that Minny is straight up better than Michigan, and yet another 33% just don't really know and agree with you that the best judgement of the two teams will come in March. That final 1% think Wisconsin rules!!! lol

I don't think anyone here EXPECTS a win tonight. You seem very, very insecure about your team with the threads you're starting. Maybe we should be the one's telling you it's not the end of the world if Michigan loses.

Did you read the Predict the Score thread?

No, but I'll predict a win whether I think it's going to happen or not, so that doesn't really mean anything to me if people were predicting the Gophers. Unless they said the words "I expect a win."

Just to let you know, GOTR, I, as Commissioner of the Predict the Score Thread, picked the Gophers to win because I EXPECT A WIN!!!

GO GOPHERS!!!

Why do so many people here have such tremendous difficulty understanding the differences between the words "predict" and "expect"? Seriously, consult a dictionary. This is grade-level stuff. Isn't this supposed to be a fan board for a college team?

Why, though, would anybody predict something they don't expect to happen?

There is a difference between not expecting something to happen, and expecting something to not happen. I don't expect the Gophers to win, but I also don't expect Michigan to win. It could go either way. You only EXPECT something to happen if you'll be completely surprised if it doesn't. I think the Gophers chances of winning are pretty good and I hope they will, but that isn't close to an expectation. When you have two fairly evenly matched teams playing each other, anything can happen.

People do predict the score for fun. In an activity one does for fun, you usually don't muse about your team suffering a loss. Nobody wants to have a stake in their own team losing... well, almost nobody.

I don't know how to answer your question dpodoll, unless I answer with another question. You have not made a prediction, you have not made an expectation. So I guess the question is...Do You Have A Clue? :)

Yes every word on a internet message board for a college team needs to be taken as and only as it is defined by a dictionary.

A prediction is one without money behind it, an expectation is one your letting the money ride on. Just my opinion.

So everytime someone plays the slots in Vegas, they're expecting to win each time? If that's the case, why do people get surprised when they win? Shouldn't something only be a surprise if you thought the opposite would happen?

It's just bizarre to me how so many people in a small, defined subgroup can get so confounded by two simple and basic disparate words. You're the latest among many.

This is obviously about betting on a sports game. I can predict a home team will win. But when i put money on a team I expect them to win. It might take homerism out of the equation.
