When all the celebrating ended for Minnesota and Northwestern after their big wins over Michigan and Wisconsin, when all the adrenaline was gone, David Cobb and Justin Jackson were pretty worn out.
Literally carrying their respective offenses is hard work.
Cobb, a 5-foot-11, 220-pound senior, had 32 carries for 183 yards on Sept. 27 against the Wolverines. Jackson, a 5-11, 185-pound true freshman, had 33 carries for 162 yards Saturday against the Badgers.
Cobb joked he was still fresh this year because he had only 11 carries combined in his first two seasons.
But in his past two games, he became the first University of Minnesota tailback since Laurence Maroney in 2005 to have consecutive games of 30-plus carries, which included a 34-carry, 207-yard game against San Jose State.
Before the bye week, Cobb was leading the nation with 124 total rushing attempts.
"The bye week helped me a lot," Cobb said. "Coaches do a good job of switching out reps in practice. And staying in the treatment room is the biggest thing for me. I feel pretty good still."
Summing his situation up as honestly as possible last weekend, Jackson said he felt "pretty crappy" after he had the most carries for a Northwestern back since Tyrell Sutton in 2007.
And this is just the start of his promising young career..
