Joe Schmidt said this was a heavy recruiting week on the news last night, Looked to me that Bill Miller might be scanning the JUCOs for some players with some recent offers going to DTs.
I've got to think they'll be reevaluating some of the local prospects too after getting some game film through their senior years.
The only recruit I can find on the databases that is listed as highly interested in committing right now is Jean Marc Charles from FL, been that way for awhile, wonder what's going on there.
21 commits right now, assuming they'll take 25-28, I've got to think they need a few more DBs and maybe another pass rusher.

Thoughts?

I know we've got a few offensive linemen-in-waiting and I hope they are showing something because that's the spot where I believe we need the most help. I doubt we will be recruiting more of them.

We need help all over the defense, but I wouldn't object to trying to land a stud RB.

If i remember correctly the staff is waiting on to see if Ford or Larson film and will probably offer 1 of the 2. I also wonder if they are waiting on Webb to see if he can figure out his grades or if that is just a lost cause at this point.

Just did some checking on JUCOs. Gophers have interest in two of Rivals Top 50 JUCOs, including #1 WR Cordarrelle Paterson, a 6-4, 205, WR out of Hutchinson (KS) JC, who they have offered. #40 LB Ruben Ibarra out of City College of San Francisco also has some interest but has not been offered.

Winona, do Ford or Larson reach "stud" level? I honestly don't know. Saw some film of Ford one night, and he looks to have some quicks. Hard to tell with these kids.

Agree on Webb as well.

All of LSU's linebackers are recruited corners and safeties, I absolutely love this idea. They are fast and aggressive tacklers. Now, we are not going to get that type of recruit but I think that philosophy and I think that we can implement that strategy to our recruiting. Speed kills in defense in college football. Thoughts?

I was at the Minnetonka, Wayzata game a few weeks back and I see no reason NOT to offer Antonio Ford. He had 195 yards that night and I think 3 TD's. He had large opening to run through most of the time, but he did seem to beak many tackles that night. Good speed. Had one fumble early in the game, but had 20+ touches and that was the only time it looked like he had a problem securing the football. Webb,, unless all the other options fall through, I don't see it with him. Should be a plan B guy.

Teams have been doing this for years. I first remember it with the really good Canes teams. We actually do it as well: Cooper, Rallis, S. Lawrence were all recruited as S. I actually wouldn't be shocked (depending on our depth next year at S) to see Manuel end up at LB.

just need to recruit tacklers

I could care less whether they are safeties, cb's or LB's just frickin tackle somebody. I never thought we would see a team that tackled as bad as Brewsters team but I was wrong, apparently you can change the coach but not the players bad habits.

I think I like Charles Webb more than most people who watch him play. I am definitely not an expert but the kid just stands out everytime i've seen him play. He is always making plays (blocking punts, stripping the ball, making a big hit). There has been some talk about needing to get his academic issues in order (i'm not speculating, his coach and him have said it in interviews on here), but if that gets in order, i'd really like to see Webb get an offer and play at the U.

I've only seen Ford play a couple times. I haven't been to as many games this season and he was with Coon Rapids last year (and I believe he was injured for a lot of it). He was impressive. He's sort of the opposite of Lamonte Edwards. When I watched Lamonte Edwards run in HS I thought, this is a big, fast kid who is just so athletic that he is a good HS RB. With Ford, he is more of a natural running back. He sets up his block, he is quick to the hole, etc. Is he a Big 10 RB? I'm not sure. Like I said, i've only seen him a couple times, he looked good.

Larson....in my opinion this is the kind of kid that needs to get an offer. He is 190 lbs, has an electronic 4.6 and runs tough. I just can't imagine that we wouldn't be able to find a spot for him somewhere. I don't know if he's a RB or not, but I am pretty sure he could put on some weight and possibly play H-Back or LB, or not put on weight and play DB or even stay at RB. There just aren't too many kids in the state of MN who are 190 lbs, can run an electronic 4.6 and are tough. Nevermind that he's about a perfect character guy (looking at Ivy League schools, etc).

I actually read a really interesting article about tackling. The theory always was that tackling is mostly about technique and being tough but the prevailing ideas about tackling are that it has much more to do with athleticism than people had given thought.

I'm not disagreeing with your point at all, we need more tacklers. But I am a believer in that that often comes with the more athletic players.

Jonathan Harden at CDH has been a stud when I've watched him play. He committed to Western Michigan and the staff didn't offer despite attending the summer camp. When I've seen him, he's been extremely disruptive, with the ability to take on 2 blockers and shed them both. His lateral quickness moving down the line of scrimmage was also really impressive to me for a guy his size (300 lbs.).

I doubt they qualify as "studs" but at this point i dont know if we can get better. I have seen both play multiple times this season, and i would hate to let both of them go. My biggest fear is if we dont get Larson is that in 4 years he will be at NDSU and just run all over the gopher D. I think i am a bigger fan of larson but for me it is 50/50 at this point at who i would favor more.

I also noticed they offered the #1 Juco and should be interesting how that recruiting process plays out.

No danger of that! There's no room on the schedule to add an FCS team until at least 2017. All the other non-conference schedules are filled or already have an FCS team scheduled.

JUCO DT PLEASE!!!! Take a risk/gamble, I don't care. Just get someone in here who can get the job done (#RIPJEWJEWPARTY)
