Mason, Brewster and Holtz for that matter, all took some "chances" to get talent on campus. That talent still had to compete against teams with a LOT more talent within the Big Ten. Time will tell whether Kill will have to take the same chances those guys did.
 

No excuses if Stanford, Northwestern and Wisconsin can compete with a much higher academic threshold.

Not to mention Michigan.

The academic threshold excuse gets a little old. Even if a kid isn't a rocket scientist, attending class and working hard is not exactly something mysterious. I like the direction that Kill seems to be taking regarding academic responsibilities.
