On Saturday, Kill added: “We’ve got a chance to be a really, really good football team next year.”

Here are the biggest questions facing the Gophers heading into that TCU showdown under the lights.

How do they replace Cobb?
How do they replace Maxx?
Can they establish a better passing attack?
Will the schedule be even tougher?
Who fills the holes on defense?
What about the offensive line?

My $0.02....
1) I love Cobb, but he will be replaceable. I think with Kill's system we will be churning out 1,000 yard rushers yearly. Cobb was a very good RB, but we will be able to replace him.
2) We do not have an athlete on the team that possesses Maxx's skill set. Just hope some of the TE's step up and try to limit the loss.
3) That's the million dollar question. i can live with Leidner's performance from Missouri if he eliminates the fumbles. His only miss was the deep post to Fruechte. Fruechte kind of stumbled, but still don't think it was a great pass.
4) Time will tell
5) Not sure
6) I am not overly concerned about our offensive line. It seems like we are always moving guys around on the o-line. Epping and Olson were stalwarts on the line and will be missed but we return a lot of experience from both starters and reserves. The other reason why I am not concerned.... we are replacing these guys with JRs and SRs. Gone are the days of having to play FR and SO.

Who fills the holes on defense?

Does Jack Lynn move back to MLB or does a guy like Everett Williams or someone else take over the position? Can Poock play MLB? It will be interesting to see how the LB positions work out next year as we have a lot of guys that could be ready to see more action. Might see a little bit more of a platoon situation than we saw at LB this year.

IMO Lynn is a MLB who played OLB this year only because we needed him on the field. I think he will move back to MLB next year and will be a good MLB. Maybe not as good as DW5, but faster and still good.

Agree. I think we'll see more guys worked in based on package as in past years. My money would be on Lynn moving back to the middle. Feel he has the frame and skill set for it.

With the schedule, they also have a chance to be a 4-8 team next year. Everything feels like it's coming to a head and 2015 is the old fork in the road.

Don't worry about the fork in the road. Just follow the advice from The Muppet Movie, "When you come to it, take it."

To go 4-8, assuming we win our games against total cupcakes, we would either need to go 1-7 B1G or go 2-6 B1G but also lose to CSU. Either of those would be miserable. If they turn a 5-3 B1G team into a 1-7 or 2-6 one overnight, when they play the same 8 teams, that would be an outrageous step backwards. I don't even know why I am bothering to think about it, because there is no way we go 4-8 next year.

When I look at who we're losing, Tight End is the only position where it seems like we will for sure be worse. RB and DB could be a little worse, if but guys step up they can rebound. We should be better at QB, WR, DL and maybe even LB. Then we return most of our special teams.

Not to put any more pressure on him, but the improvement of the team overall will depend on the QB position. We really need to be able to establish a consistent threat through the air.

Our schedule seems to be slightly more favorable next year, so overall I don't see how we should not be at least the same as what we were this year.

We will miss Botticelli and Wilson big time - they really stopped the run and will be hard to replace !

I'm curious why you think that? Our non-conference schedule will be a little tougher just because of the road game against Colorado St. All the other opponents are the same.

I would think that playing most of the tougher teams at home, rather than on the road, is the reason he thinks the schedule next year is slightly easier.
