Some observations based on the days events:

1. It appears as though Norwood has a lot of authority and support from Kaler, and he is willing to LEAD
2. Norwood believes MN is not a poor destination for mens BB
3. Norwood believes MN can be a winner, with the right coach
4. Seems obvious that this was in the works for a while given the quick announcement
5. Appears as though Norwood has the replacement Q'd up

I can think of no better way to begin sticking his hands in other people's wallets than to make a grand-slam hire. This is step one of a plan. Hope he gets that grand-slam.

It also appears Maturi was one of the worst Athletic Director's in the nation if Norwood can get 2.5 million for firing a coach who won a game but he couldn't get money for a practice facility in 5 years.

Step 2 is a practice facility!

Agreed, good points.

well just every AD everywhere wants something better...wanting and getting are 2 different animals. Norwood thinks he can do better than Tubby at theU is no different than maturi thinking the Big BS-R he hired was a better football then the proven solid coach mason

Comparing Maturi to Woody? Havent seen much with Woody but Maturi was not good at all.

Big difference is Woody is LEADING. Right or wrong, he is LEADING. Foreign concept at the U.

Woody has a plan, is executing the plan as demonstrated today. He is a winner. He knows basketball and understands a healthy basketball team is good for the whole University.

What's your point? That both Maturi and Teague wanted something more than middle of the road in the B1G? That some future coach is an unknown and has the chance to be better, even to or even worse than Tubby? Those two things seem to be self evident. Just because a future coach might be worse isn't a reason to continue with a coach that Teague has determined is no longer a good fit for the institution and the direction he hopes to take the U.

It looks like Scout is going to be absolutely against the new coach, whoever it is.

My reaction during the presser today was that I was watching an AD that absolutely knew what he was doing...that he's had this plan set up for awhile now, and that this wasn't done on a whim. I have a feeling that Teague is going to make some good decisions for us before too long.

Was this still in dispute? The one significant thing he did right still didn't work out and just got fired.

I am hopeful that you are right but as of right now Teague has done nothing as our AD except fire Tubby. When we have a new coach, shovels in the ground on the practice facility and one or more of the big 3, I'll stand up and applaud his leadership.

Right now, for all we know, is Teague is the captain of the titanic standing on the bridge and stoically going down with his ship (he just doesn't know its sinking yet)....only time will tell.

True - however inaction seldom, if ever moves an organization ahead. At least Woody is doing something. It might be the wrong thing, but he is not content with the performance and results of the BB program.

That much is certain. And I dont think it took him until last evening to make that decision, either.

Norwood is a true leader. he has a positive vision for the program and will hire the right coach to get us there. Bravo Norwood!! The past is not a reflection on the future of Minnesota basketball.....

What a refreshing change from the Joel Matur era.....Joel set us back 15 years and it only took him his 8 years to do it.......

One more - I think Norwood is a bulldog, and willing to fight like hell to have successful major sports at MN.

Yeah.. I got that as well. He's fast becoming a favorite in my family. This next move of his will be the deciding factor.

This. This is why I like him, a LOT, right now. It's clear that mediocrity is NOT in his plan, and he will NOT stand for it. He may eff up this hire, and he may bury the basketball program like the Brew hire did to football.. but at least he is a man of action. I praise him for that. Even in this time of national stupidity.

Ahhhh....I basque in the glow of the Maroon Colored sun that is Norwood Teague...a man who done almost nothing but has done it authoritatively.

Whether or not you agree with his decision, comparing this Macturi (since Wren is back) firing of Mason is completely missing the point. The Mason firing was one of the worst handled firings that I've ever seen. He waited till after the bowl game and then took his sweet time. He made a depleted roster even more depleted by essentially throwing away a recruiting class.

Intelligent people can disagree about whether or not Mase should go, but there isn't a person with a fully functioning brain that wasn't annoyed with HOW that change took place.

For Teague, it's the opposite. If you're going to make a move, you need to move fast. Teague appears to be moving fast and is able to get done what he thinks needs to get done to improve out athletics. Whether you agree with his choice or not, he was hired to make those decisions and HOW he's making them is refreshing for most Gopher fans.

As for The Scout, I'm convinced he just hates well executed out of bounds plays, there isn't another explanation for his unraveling today.

In the world of making decisions, that's already a MASSIVE upgrade.
