Chip Scoggins: Turning to Teague not exactly a Hail Mary

Thought this was a solid column by Chip. My one wonder is whether Mary Jo Kane recognized Teague's football 'resume gap' as a good thing, or a bad thing. My perception of her may be unfair, but something tells me its the former and not the latter.

She donated $10,000 dollars to TCF Bank Stadium. People who hate football don't donate $10,000 to football.

Just to play devil's advocate, people who want people to think they like football might donate $10,000 for appearance's sake.

So...you're really in favor of beer for the masses in TCF, but for appearances sake you post an opposing view.

Right?

I'm in favor of beer sales at TCF so long as they require that tobacco, firearms, fireworks, and pornography must be sold as well.

Well then, she appears to be prudent enough to know where her 'bread is buttered', when it comes to funding the sports of the fairer sex she tends to champion then.

Think they'd deliver the porn to my seat?

Kane might not like football, but she is smart enough to know that a profitable football team is necessary for the continued success of the non-revenue sports. That being said, there are cheaper ways to keep up appearances. At least she was willing to support the program she knows to be crucial, regardless of her supposed distaste for it, rather than just complain about it.

I just donated $200, but I am really into baseball. I am not worthy!

2nd biggest college scoreboard in the country for XXX videos!

LOL! Maybe they can add a red light district on the east end adjacent from the beer garden. Then people could walk down to the "Doobie Lounge" underneath the stadium and have a smoke...

You just hate football 50 times less than Kane does. If you really hated football, then you would have donated more to football. After all, according to some where, the more you donate, the more you hate football.

Mary Jo Kane makes at least $180,000 per year.

Ten grand isn't exactly her entire life savings. I can envision a scenario in which she wanted to give a gift to the athletic department (because she is a legitimate supporter of athletics), and thinks to herself "I may as well give to football, because no matter my actions for the rest of my career, I can always point to this and say 'see how much I love football!'". Giving a gift of that amount gives her carte blanche to take almost any action re: the athletic department and her intentions will never be questioned.

Is it likely? No, not at all. Is it possible? Yes, absolutely. There are tons and tons of examples from history of people whose actions say one thing and whose intent says another thing altogether. Her actions and words from the past do not paint the picture of someone who is enamored with revenue sports at the U.

It's possible that someone donated 5% of a year's salary to a cause that she wants to destroy. Not very credible, but possible. It's black helicopter territory though.

Not destroy, just fall in line. I think it's pretty obvious that in her perfect world every sport (men's and women's) would be treated as equals.
