I might be a dinosaur, but I favor the old 10-team conference of midwest teams with their shared history, heritage and rivalries.

If football had gone to a 16 team playoff some time ago this wouldn't have happened. A limited playoff is now the impetus for the destruction of traditional conferences.

I think that's part of it. But it's also the regional sports networks trying to extend their reach in order to add incoming dollars.
