Good read from Chip. The Gophers have teased us before, of course, which is why hardened followers of this program need more evidence than one thrashing of a Michigan team in disarray.

The Gophers also have their areas of concern, but Kill has created a blueprint that works for them. David Cobb ranks sixth nationally in rushing at 144 yards per game. Their defense is tied for sixth among FBS schools in takeaways with 15. They’re allowing only 19 points per game.

“I think we know internally how good we are and how good we can be,” Williams said.

Here’s their opportunity to show everyone else.

So did they take down the link or is the link listed bad? I couldn't find it.

Good article by Chip, but I continue to be baffled by the (seemingly) majority opinion that Northwestern is a must win game and Iowa is a tough one. Iowa easily could have 3-4 losses right now and has struggled at times in every game, while Northwestern has two big wins in a row.

This feels like a big game today.

The win will be a little less important in terms of losing the momentum and springboard potential, but winning The Jug won't lose importance from a trophy and rivalry win perspective.

He does have a point. He is saying winning the trophy games is great, but you also have to win other conference games while you are at it (probably thinking of the back to back Iowa wins a couple of years ago.

GH: Article means little if the Strib can't build on it

I'd like to see a comparison between the percentage of new Strib newspaper subscriptions vs. Gopher wins during the Jerry Kill era.

Won't subscribe to, click on or care two hoots about Soupcan's fish wrapper. Nothing personal.

I pretty much agree with this, perhaps in a different context; Lots of talk about "getting to 7-1, get to 7-1 going into the Iowa game", etc. If the Gophers enter the Iowa game at 7-1, with two weeks to prepare and get healthy for the Pig Farmers, I don't see that game as being significantly more difficult than Northwestern or maybe even Illinois on the road.

Long story short, especially after the win today, if the Gophers get to 7-1, I REALLY like their chances of getting to 8-1. Things could look a lot different by then, who knows...
