per Chip:

Flip Saunders, the former Gopher and ex-Wolves coach, would be a crowd-pleasing choice to replace Tubby Smith. The ex-Wolves coach would be a crowd-pleasing choice to replace Tubby Smith.

Saunders remains overwhelmingly popular among fans. He knows how to coach offense, which would be a welcome sight after enduring Tubby’s tortuous system. And Saunders is ingrained in the high school hoops scene and could make things interesting with the Big Three recruits — Tyus Jones, Rashad Vaughn and Reid Travis.

YES!!! Love hearing all of this common sense talk about Flip. Hopefully NT is listening and can swallow his Villa 7 pride.

I'm pro hiring Flip. But I'm not sure I buy reports that he's currently the leading candidate... indications were (are?) that he would love the job, so if he were the leading candidate, wouldn't this be over?

I do think he will end up as our coach, which I'm happy about it. But I think the reports were probably premature, otherwise I'd be a bit confused as to why it's not a done deal.

But yes. I hope we do hire Flip.

Agreed.

It's as obvious as the nose on my face that Teague is strategically leaking selective names to gauge the reaction on the GopherHole. Once he saw that there would be a 40% reduction in season ticket sales if he hired Anthony Grant, he quickly sent him along his way "to Georgia to do some recruiting" which is so much the oldest trick in the book it's practically a cliche. Now he sees enough dissent in the ranks with a potential Flip hire that he's seriously re-thinking it. Yes it's a small but a loud and tenacious group of gripers, so much so that Norwood can practically hear the boos in Williams arena when he looks forward to opening night.

Boy, you're reading this differently than I am. Not in how Teague is thinking; I'm still skeptical that Flip will get the job. But it seems to me that people would either love Flip as coach or hate him -- but that it's 75% or more on the love side. Maybe I'm seeing that wrong.

I almost get the feeling that Teague is avoiding Flip just to show that he's willing to go against the "fan favorite."
