per Chip:

This one was 10 shades of ugly and not even remotely competitive.

The Gophers have made incremental progress this season and playing in a bowl game should provide some benefits. But if they're going to take the next step in their development, they need to prove they can physically compete with Wisconsin and Nebraska and the rest of the Big Ten's heavyweights. Their performance Saturday represented another stark reminder of their deficiencies in that area.

Go Gophers!!

We also need to prove that we can make it an entire season without a punt of less than 10 yards.

Re competing with Badgers: The Gophers should have adopted Wisconsin's offense when Wisconsin did - in the early nineties. Play action with big linemen, locally recruited, is a prefect fit for us, as it is for Wisconsin. Strong running game, with a QB who can pass, plus good defense, a Minnesota tradition. Instead we went with Wacky's pass, pass, pass, no defense, and fell down the rabbit hole. Still, we beat 'em in '93, when they won the Rose Bowl (Darkins!).
