per Chip:

As Trevor Mbakwe's long and winding, second-chance-filled road nears an end, a poignant Senior Day looms.

Mbakwe's career serves as a testament to perseverance and his ability to overcome self-inflicted mistakes. His career demonstrates the importance of second chances and even third chances, and that sports often becomes an ideal laboratory for redemption and rehabilitation.

Thankfully, Mbakwe was given an opportunity to make things right.

"I'm just grateful to be able to play basketball," he said.

PiPress: Gophers basketball: Rodney Williams, Trevor Mbakwe wax nostalgic

Expectations were high for the 2009 class. Two original members hope to reach their first NCAA tournament together. Williams and Mbakwe made a YouTube video called "Unfinished Business" before the season.

"It meant a lot," Williams said. "That was a big, big decision Trevor had to make. For him to come back and play with us one last time, everybody was excited. We needed him. If we didn't have Trevor, we are not the team we are now."
