"We've heard over and over that the Gophers football program is in the dumps and needs time to pull itself together.

Be patient, we're told. The cupboard is bare. They need more talent. The previous coach left the place in shambles.

Fine, but that's still no excuse for what took place Saturday night. Is the Gophers situation so dire that we're supposed to accept them getting embarrassed at home by a team that competes at a lower level, has 22 fewer scholarships available and does not have one player who was offered a scholarship to a Big Ten school?"

I know the definition of journalism in this town is jaded because of my close, personal friend, Sid. But our job is to tell it like it is. I won't hesitate in acknowledging that the "U" is my alma mater and I am very proud of that, but I also am a realist. Last night was another very low point. How would you like me to spin that any other way?

It isn't necessarily the loses I hate, it's the fact that we don't even look competitive and that we look like we are getting outcoached.
