per Chip:

We know the Gophers have talent, but they showed some resolve, too. They showed their leadership. That will serve them well as they progress through the Big Ten schedule and find themselves in tough spots again, especially on the road.

Go Gophers!!

From the article......The Gophers raised their intensity on defense and made stops. They limited Michigan State to four points in the final nine minutes.

Michigan State scored 8 points in the last 14 minutes of the game. (If I'm seeing it correctly in the play by play.) Man, that is stifling.

I think, besides the stifling defense that the team displayed, we should not overlook the offensive display. MSU defense had something like a 59.3 points against defense, and we smoked them with our offense. Overall, a great team effort at both ends of the floor.

That is correct. At 14:02, Appling scored to put State up 55-51. From that point on, Gophers outscored State 25-8.

It was clear that MSU wasn't nearly as good as they have been the last 10 years or so in transition...both offensively and defensively they just don't have the talent to run. They are much stronger in the half court set (except Appling who can run).

We beat them when we ran and when we cut hard and had lots of movement on offense, they just couldn't handle our speed/length when we were moving.

IMO...this Gopher team is talented enough to make a deep run...it will come down to injuries and mental toughness to see just how far we can go. If we are healthy and we keep learning how to finish games like last night...Elite 8 is a very real possibility.

yes and no

I agree with the comments about the gophers. But not about MSU, I didn't realize Draymon Green was so great at running the floor? Really he is about all they lost. He is an awesome player but a transition runner he is not. Look they have Appling, Harris, and Dawson who are all good to great athletes who can run the floor. They are not a top 10 team but they are a top 25 team and Izzo will have them ready to be dangerous come march. This was a very good win.

Biggest Spartan lead was 59-54, and I think they had one possession where they could have made it a 7- or 8-point lead.
