per PennLive.com:

A new bombshell dropped in the Jerry Sandusky child sex abuse scandal Thursday.

It came in the form of a single line in a court order on a related insurance coverage case involving Penn State, and its full ramifications can't immediately be gauged.

But that line was eye-popping in itself.

The line in question states that one of Penn State's insurers has claimed "in 1976, a child allegedly reported to PSU's Head Coach Joseph Paterno that he (the child) was sexually molested by Sandusky."

The order also cites separate references in 1987 and 1988 in which unnamed assistant coaches witnessed inappropriate contact between Sandusky and unidentified children, and a 1988 case that was supposedly referred to Penn State's athletic director at the time.

But it is the Paterno allegation that is eye-popping, because of the unending national conversation and curiosity over how much the late and legendary Penn State coach may have known about Sandusky's actions during their lengthy careers together.

That program deserves the death penalty plain and simple

Awful stuff, makes you sick to your stomach for those kids and what they went through.

Joe's story of never asking anyone about it after the coach coming to him and talking to the administration never made sense to me.

Unless, he already knew and didn't want to know more.

Over time these type of things would have had to have been noticed and reported to the head coach.

At least they don't have Sakal threatening to walk with his donation.

The program needs to be done with everything Joe Paterno, which means getting rid of 60+ years of him...no one who was ever associated with him should be part of that program...that means, assistant, administrators, booster, etc...

10+ year ban...when the program returns, no one directly associated with that football program from 1950 til 2012 should be allowed to have anything to do with the program...that includes former players (even though 99.99% of them are innocent in this)....just start completely over, make sure Joe and Jerry have no mark on the football program at all.

Makes that slap on the wrist by the NCAA even more embarrassing.

Makes that slap on the wrist by the NCAA even more embarrassing.

Remember folks, long distance phone calls / phone cards / bagel toppings (ok they reversed he bagel topping rule) = bad for sports.

Former coaches raping kids on campus over decades = less bad.

No kidding. Could this be the learning moment for NCAA like Rice was for the NFL? Only hope...

I'll say this much. The Police should have been involved. Much like calling 911 first in an emergency.

I wonder if Donald Trump has called him lately....

Sandusky victim: Joe Paterno told me to drop abuse accusation

I don't doubt anything victim "A" says is true but even if only a small part of it is true, it is just sickening what has happened to these victims. I don't know if I'll still have my season tickets when we play PSU in 2019 but if I do, I plan to boycott this game. I will not scalp or give away my tickets. If I don't have season tickets in 2019, I know one game I won't be buying tickets for that year.

Penn St. fans around the internet keep saying there is no proof so none of it is true. I guess everyone is out to get Paterno and Penn St.

Some people are also saying that this (the late '70's charge) is all based on one sentence. Well, that's all it takes.

All this does is reinforce my longstanding negative opinion toward Joe Paterno. Self-important little pr*ck.
