"The Weather Channel forecasts snow with a temperature around -18 degrees wind chill factor, for Monday evening's Bears v. Vikings. The game will be played outside in the Gopher Hole (University of Minnesota's outdoor football stadium). I doubt our furry friends will pop their heads out of the ground, let alone even fantasize about seeing their shadows."

Go Gophers!!

This is completely idiotic, uninformed writing. The field is not frozen and will not be frozen. It will be no different than during the regular season. Maybe the NFL should start in June so that cold weather games never have to be played.

Espn has gone with the frozen "tundra"angle. Just saw an ad for it. Nice overhead of the stadium.

I would expect a fair amount of tommy kramer and or actually more bud grant video Monday.

Go Gophers!

Maybe we should let the Bears and their fans meander off to Mambie Pambie land like a bunch of JackWagons, frikking "cry babies".

Inaccuracy and wrongness by the local and national media about the weather, frozen tundra, and the safety of the players were absolutely predictable. Never count on the media to let fair and accurate reporting get in the way of the opportunity for jokes and ridicule. Who in GopherHole expects John Gruden to fall all over himself praising the Gopher's Stadium rather then ripping the Vikings and NFL for putting the health and future careers of the players at risk? The comments about the fans in their snowmobile suits heading for the exits after the half time fesitivities because they are cold and want to get home in time to get ready for work are going be constant. As will the TV views of a half empty stadium during the 4th quarter. Is it too early for the naysayers to say I told you so to those who are predicting that Monday's game is going to be a great boon for recruiting impressionable 17 year old high school recruits?

You make a valid point, particularly about inaccuracy and wrongness of reporting by the media (as well as the opportunity for jokes and ridicule). But it's not in the networks best interest to ridicule the stadium on air when anyone will be able to see it's a great facility and a great effort was made to open it up for use. As for recruits...I tend to think it reinforces the beliefs of those who were interested and vice versa.

It sounds like they have the turf situation under control and it probably won't be to bad. The NFL plays under ideal conditions though. The ground is probably never under 50 degrees at game time no matter what the temperature is. That can make a difference. When you consider where the players are comming from, I would think that the concerns are legitimate.
