As for fan reaction to Kill's hiring, Bruininks added, "We'll get some positives; we'll get some negatives. But it doesn't really matter in the end; what matters is that we get better results.
"We made the decision that we think will give us good results in the long term, and that's what we have a responsibility to do. (The search) was very intensive. We think the stakes are high, and we want to make sure we get this right because we believe our fans deserve a strong football program.
"I've never bought into this notion that you can't win at Minnesota. That's just plain nonsense."
Bruininks consulted with his successor — Eric Kaler, who begins in July — and kept him informed as the seven-week search went on. Kaler spoke to Kill last weekend.
