"The fact that we've won four games in the Big Ten in a row for the first time in 40 years, I don't think anybody envisioned that, including Joel Maturi," Maturi said Saturday.

But, Maturi said, "Jerry had won every place he had been, and he had a vision of doing that at Minnesota. There was always the hope and always the plan, and we're on our way."

Kill's accomplishment has come with two games still on the regular-season schedule in his third year with the Gophers.

"I think it's come quicker than most people thought, even Jerry Kill," Maturi said. "When you coach -- and I coached -- and you're involved in athletics, you never go into a game and don't think you're going to win.

Go Gophers!!

I can't state enough how glad I am that Joel Maturi is not the AD at the University of MN anymore.

I passed Mr. Maturi walking into the stadium. I am so glad he is gone.

I may not have been his biggest fan (quite the opposite), but very glad he hired Coach Kill.

Joel Maturi was waaaaay too good a human being to be a big-time AD.

That about sums it up. I'd like to see us say thanks to him for getting coach Kill, silently acknowledge that he wasn't perfect, and move on. The man loves the U. I think we need to let it go.

Long after Tim Brewster is just a fading memory most Gopher fans will fondly remember Joel Maturi as the AD who was in charge when the Gopher football stadium was designed and built and when Jerry Kill was hired as coach.
