^ Yeah, me too. I definitely see Minnesota bowling next season.

I think the Gophers are the most unpredictable team in the conference. It could go either way. There are many unknowns. Will the offense improve? Will the defense, with the huge turnover but with talented new starters, maintain or improve on last year?

Seriously, it could go either way. I think 7-5 or 8-4 is just as likely as 5-7 ot 4-8.

I think the team has better athletes on defense and experience returning on offense but those athletes on defense are pretty inexperienced and the offense really underperformed last year.

Since those in the prediction business tend to rely on what they know, you'll see them hedge their bets and rank the Gophers relatively low. However, I think if a team exceeds preseason expectations, it's likely to be the Gophers as a result.

CFN asks "How much would the Holiday Bowl love to get Michigan?" Well, probably quite a bit, but there's one problem: the Big Ten doesn't have a tie-in with the Holiday Bowl.

Back to the drawing board, College Football News.

I kept thinking that the bowls didn't seem right that the Big Ten was assigned in their predictions, but I couldn't find a list of all of the current bowls associated with the conference.

1 - Rose
2 - Cap One
3 - Outback
4 - Gator/Insight
5 - Gator/Insight
6 - Texas
7 - Dallas Classic
8 - Motor City

CFN even put in a little note saying "the Big Ten has way too many tie-ins." Well, yeah, if you think the Holiday Bowl is thrown in the mix, I can see why you'd say that. Before they go projecting where 70 teams will land, they should probably first figure out what conferences go where. Because if you get one wrong - as they did here - there is a huge trickle-down effect.

If they can't pay enough attention to what bowls the Big Ten has, I see no reason to think they've paid enough attention to figure out how good each team will be. People making early predictions don't do a lot of research, they basically assume that things will be pretty much as they were last year. If the defense can remain about as good, the offense should be better, so the Gophers might surprise a bit.
