Collegefootballnews.com put out its final rankings for this past season, and slot the Gophers in at #8.

8. Minnesota Golden Gophers (11-2)
CFN Preseason Preview Ranking: 43
Final Regular Season Ranking: 12
Why Ranked Here? Auburn, Auburn, Auburn. The Gophers’ Outback win over the Tigers – along with win over Penn State – pushes them this high.

Three other B1G teams are in their top ten, with PSU at 9, Skunks at 7, and OSU at 3.

For the beginning of the list (starting with Akron at #130):

For the top 10:

Wisconsin at 7 with 4 losses seems like a bit of an over rank
I was thinking the same thing. Auburn with 4 losses too. A 4 loss team does not belong in the top 10, 4 losses is 4 losses. It’s beyond flukey. You lose to 4 really good, ranked teams...well that’s too bad you’re not as good. This is going by that logic of “good losses”. I hate that.

Right. Especially when one of the 4 losses was to Illinois. They seem to be getting a pass for that. We wouldn’t get that benefit of the doubt.

Who did they rank preseason number 1?

The only team they didn’t provide their preseason rank for?

Edit: Nevermind. Found it. Alabama. Duh.

Their 4 losses are to tOSU twice, Oregon, and Illinois. They smoked us at TCF.

I just took a look at the ranking. This guy loses a ton of credibility putting Oklahoma at 15 - and Baylor at 16, for that matter.

Those were home games. Winning at Minnesota this year is more impressive IMO.
It's debatable which is the best win. What's not debatable is the "by far" part - all 3 were solid wins that are close in quality.
