CFN: Big Ten Preseason College Football Head Coach Rankings (4. PJ Fleck, Minnesota)

Really don’t understand the Franklin and Fitzgerald love.

between the two of them they have 1 big ten championship and somehow they are picked at The top every year

The love for Fitzgerald probably comes from the perception that Northwestern is arguably the hardest job in the Big Ten, and that fielding a team that is bowl eligible more often than not and even actually gets to the top 25 sometimes at that school must take some incredible coaching wizardry, even if they’re rarely a true threat to win the conference.

Northwestern was the hardest job in the big ten in 1994

in 2020 it is a better job than Indiana and Rutgers For sure.
And I think a pretty strong argument could be made that it’s a better job than Purdue and Illinois

But yes for sure that’s why he gets credit.
Both of the two coaches preceding him won big ten titles. He has not (can’t split titles now so it’s harder)

I’m also stumped by the praise for Franklin. In his time at Penn State, his teams are 1-5 against Ohio State, 2-4 against Michigan, and 2-4 against Michigan State, and people say he’s the best coach in the B1G. I don’t understand.
