The NFL Players Association is proud to announce that defensive back Cedric Thompson of Minnesota has committed to playing in the 2015 NFLPA Collegiate Bowl.

In his senior campaign with the Gophers, Cedric Thompson excelled both on and off the field. The 6-0, 208-pound Thompson ranked second on the team with 77 tackles. He racked up three tackles for loss, two interceptions, two forced fumbles and one pass broken up.

The Business and Marketing / Education major is a multiple time Academic All-Big Ten honoree and was Minnesota’s Big Ten sportsmanship honoree. In previous seasons, he received the school’s Richard “Pinky” McNamara Student-Athlete Achievement Award (given to an individual who has inspired all by making an extraordinary effort to succeed despite difficult circumstances, persevering during a time of tremendous adversity and/or overcoming a great challenge) and was one of five NCAA student-athletes to receive the Wilma Rudolph Student Athlete Achievement Award (honors student athletes who have overcome great personal, academic, and/or emotional odds to achieve academic success while participating in intercollegiate athletics).

The native of Calipatria, California will be one of the talented draft-eligible seniors competing in the all-star game on Saturday, January 17 at StubHub Center on the campus of California State University Dominguez Hills in Carson, California.

Kickoff is scheduled for 4 p.m. ET, and the game will be televised live on ESPN2. ESPNU will also air live broadcasts from practices on Wednesday, January 14 and Thursday, January 15.

For one week preceding the NFLPA Collegiate Bowl, participants will receive an in-depth introduction to the union – the primary resource for information on the business of football and how to succeed in the NFL and in post-football careers.

Pro-football players and coaching legends will work with the game’s future stars, giving them first-hand insight on what it takes to win on and off of the field. Mike Holmgren and Mike Martz will serve as the head coaches for the American and National Teams.

When do the Senior bowl and East West shrine game announcements come out?

Damien Wilson and Cameron Botticelli are also going to play in the NFLPA bowl.

Wondering if there will be any Gophers playing in the Senior bowl or the East West shrine game and when those announcements might be.

I heard that too. Do you know why it hasn't been announced and there isn't anything out there with those two?

I'm not sure, but I think it has to do with when they accepted and the NFLPA bowl announcing players every day leading up to the bowl game.

Good for Thompson. Guy really hits. If he can show the requisite cover skills, he may have a chance. Guy could probably be a real special teams whiz.

If it is meant to be and he plays in the NFL, I'll be a huge fan of his on that stage.

No matter what happens from here on out, I'm a huge fan of Cedric Thompson, the man. When you understand where he came from and to read about him receiving those academic accolades, it makes me incredibly proud of him and how he represented the University of Minnesota.

A sincere "Hat's off to Thee" Cedric.

If you have not yet searched it out, try to watch "Bombay Beach". It's no longer offered on Netflix (damnit!).

2011 Winner of the Tribeca film festival doc competition and a festival hit around the world.

The rusting relic of a failed 1950s development boom, the Salton Sea is a barren Californian landscape often seen as a symbol of the failure of the American Dream. A sea in the middle of the Colorado desert.

True to her roots as a photographer, video artist, and music video director, Alma Har'el crafts an adamantly atypical and artistically innovative film telling the story of of three protagonists: Benny Parrish, a young boy diagnosed with bipolar disorder whose troubled soul and vivid imagination create both suffering and joy for him and his complex and loving family. CeeJay Thompson, a black teenager and aspiring football player who has taken refuge in Bombay Beach hoping to avoid the same fate of his cousin who was murdered by a gang of youths in Los Angeles. And that of Red, an ancient survivor, once an oil field worker, living on the fumes of whiskey, cigarettes and an irrepressible love of life.

Together they make up a triptych of American manhood in its decisive moments, populating the Salton Sea's land of thwarted opportunity.

Bombay Beach is a dreamlike poem that sets these personal stories to a stylized melding of observational documentary and choreographed dance, to music specially composed for the film by ZACH CONDON of the band BEIRUT, and songs by BOB DYLAN.

The result is a moving and madly inventive documentary experience—an evocative, symbolic portrait of rural America and its inhabitants.
