Cedric Thompson Receives Wilma Rudolph Award

Minnesota senior safety Cedric Thompson received the Wilma Rudolph Student Athlete Achievement Award this morning in Orlando, Fla., at the annual National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics convention.

The Wilma Rudolph Student-Athlete Achievement Award honors student athletes who have overcome great personal, academic, and/or emotional odds to achieve academic success while participating in intercollegiate athletics.

I just read Cedric's Star Tribune feature from a couple years ago. It's a really great read.

From a coaching/recruiting perspective, I really liked this one from Jay Sawvel:

“Recruiting can have more to do with location than whether a guy has talent,” Sawvel said. “If you put Cedric Thompson in Atlanta, I’m sure he’d have a whole lot of offers, so it piqued my curiosity.”

Seems like Cedric is quietly doing really great things. He led the team in tackles last year and his name rarely comes up when talking about key players here. I think you are right about this year.
