per CBS:

Mack Brown made a lot of money while he was coaching at Texas, so odds are if you want to pry the 63-year old away from his cushy television gig and convince him to return to the sideline to rebuild your program, you're going to need to offer some coin.

And apparently SMU is willing to do just that.

In late September, after June Jones stepped down as SMU's coach, it was reported that some people at SMU were "intrigued" by the idea of bringing Brown to the school. Well, according to Dallas Morning News columnist Bill Nichols, that intrigue is worth about $32 million.

From Nichols' column:

Armed with the knowledge that winning seasons are possible at SMU, more qualified candidates are interested in the opportunity to return the program to prominence. And basketball's quick ascension under Larry Brown seems to have galvanized the school's football commitment.

Thus, it's not shocking that SMU officials have already had preliminary discussions with former Texas coach Mack Brown, floating $4 million annually over eight years, sources say. Brown, 63, fits the Larry Brown model — a national championship winner who can land star prospects on name alone.

Go Gophers!!

That's less than what he was making at Texas ($5.2m/year). But, an eight-year deal is cushy. Don't think he'll take it, but, maybe he misses being on the sidelines.

I think he will take it as he felt forced out at Texas. And I think he'd be a great get initially for SMU. The stories of how thuggish his players actually were at Texas is concerning, but SMU wants to win not have academic all americans.

When you can overpay an AARP member who was run out of his last job because he didn't have it anymore...ya gotta do it.

Go Gophers!!

Hire Mack Brown, Brown hire/ groom Brewster to be successor. Brewster recruits and recruits some more, then maybe is ready the second time around.

$4 million a year? That's less than SMU paid Eric Dickerson, and that was 30 years ago.
