"@BFeldmanCBS: BREAKING: Mike Leach has verbally agreed to be the head coach at Washington St."

Go Gophers!!

That is a good get for Washington St. They need a high profile coach to jump start that downtrodden program. It will be fun seeing how he does there. Leach is one of my favorite coaches. You never know what is going to come out of his mouth. Now I have a reason to pay attention to Washington State.

Huge get for Washington State, I love that Leach is going to a down and out program.

Queue the first comparisons between Washington State and Minnesota progress in their dual attempts to rise from the depths of their respective conferences. I know a lot of eyes here will be on how Leach does, and what comes out of his mouth if he takes over WSU. Either way... I predict there will be some "I told you so's..." from one side or the other from the debate last fall to bring Leach here.

From the comments of a CougCenter post on this topic. Brilliant!

Prob will be. Which is silly given the difference in conferences alone. Defense not being a noted Pac-12 strong suit and all.

I'll be cheering on Leach. We all knew mild Joel and meek PrexyB wouldn't talk to Leach.

Great get for a down trodden program. They are immediately of national interest. It'll be interesting to see how fast he gets to .500. I don't know what the non conference schedule looks like over there but I would imagine they could get 4-5 wins next year.

If the U were in Warroad it would be a valid comparison.

Looks like Eastern Washington and UNLV are on there. I think Utah was there too but obviously that's not a NC game anymore. :)

His offense put up huge numbers in the sec at Kentucky. A good offense is a good offense.

For some reason people seem to think the spread only works against bad defenses.

They were 4-7 this year and they have a young team (just talked to a friend who went to WSU as an undergrad), so I'd be shocked if they weren't .500 or over next year.

The people who will be upset the most are the Maryland fans, as Leach was interviewed for the Maryland job.

I'm not one of those people and my comment was partly snark. But I do think that his level of success with wins (not just offensive output) will be better in the Pac-12 than it would be in the B1G.

People who are most upset are not Maryland fans. They are me. We didn't even talk to the guy who in my opinion was the best guy available to us.

Good news for Mr. Leach, good news for Cougar fans and good luck to the Administration!

Oh and it's GREAT news for every program looking for a coach. They don't have to read any "Are you going to hire Leach" e-mails, or posts, articles etc. :)

I now have a brand spankin' new 2nd favorite team. Go Cougars!

Are we sure Leach is going to coach at WSU because I was told he wouldn't ever coach again by people on this board.

it would be nice to have an aggressive AD. Wulff restocked the roster with some good players. Leach will have success very soon.

Good for Leach, knew it was only a matter of time before another school gave him a shot, I really wanted that school to be Minnesota but best of luck to him.

This is the perfect fit for Mike Leach. There away from any major tv markets and he's still coaching in a BCS conference school. Not sure about recruiting to Pullman. It should help some, but his system should be able to make average QB's into good or even great QB's.

He recruited to Lubbock, he should be able to recruit to Pullman.

Congrats to WSU. They really should praise their AD for having the nuts to make this move.
President Kaler: That's the type of decisions a real AD makes, a few days after the season, he goes out and aggressively gets the best football coach possible. The contrast with our spineless POS AD is amazing.

Kill is getting it done here, and I think is a better fit than Leach would have been, BUT the difference in the coach selection process is night and day.

Again, congrats to WSU, I'd expect them to turn the table on a few teams right out of the gate next year.

Also, holy cow offense in the PAC 12, with Richrod, Kelly, USC, Stanford, and now leach, there may be some MAC like 63-60 games played on the west coast in the future.

Not saying that Maturi ran a good process, but let's play devils advocate here. This is the first school to offer Leach a job since he left TT. Leach was pretty sure to jump at the first offer to get back in.

Plenty of other athletic directors not named Maturi passed on Leach, were they not real athletic directors?
