CBS Bowl Projections as of 11/17: Gophers vs Ole Miss in Gator Bowl

Are these projections based on "if the season ended today", or do they factor in predictions for how we will fare against MSU and Wisco?

It factors in how the season will play out because he has the Skunks in a BCS game. They aren't ranked highly enough currently to get an at large bid.
 


If I read the STrib correctly this morning, they have us playing LSU (eek).

Problem #1, you're reading the STrib :) That was the projection last week. Then the debate opened up whether you'd rather go to a top bowl and lose or go to a lesser bowl and win.
 

ESPN (Brad Edwards) has us vs Georgia in the Gator Bowl.
 

I don't know how Wisconsin makes a BCS bowl and we make the gator bowl. One of these 2 won't happen I feel like.

Pretty simple, really. See below. It assumes that Iowa won't pass us over, which is a HUGE assumption based on past history. It also assumes we DO get passed over by a team we beat (Nebraska) and a team with a worse record (Michigan). Both of these things undoubtedly WILL happen.

In the case of Nebraska, the head to head match up against Minnesota will suddenly be downplayed: "Nebraska and Minnesota are two different teams now than when they played. Head to head match ups matter, but so do other factors, including how the teams finished the season. The opportunity for us to select a team of Nebraska's caliber doesn't come along too often, so it's just too good to pass up."

In the case of Michigan, the head to head match up against Minnesota will suddenly become VERY important: "Despite having a worse record, Michigan beat Minnesota head-to-head and proved to be the better team. Plus, the opportunity to select a team with the name recognition of Michigan doesn't come along very often. It was too good to pass up."

Rose: OSU
BCS At-Large: Wisconsin
Capital One: MSU
Outback: Nebraska
BW3: Michigan
Gator: Minnesota
Texas: Iowa
Heart of Dallas: AT LARGE
Little Caesar's: AT LARGE
 

As a reminder, we can't be passed up for the Capital One or Outback if we have 2 more wins than either Nebraska or Michigan.

Absolutely. One more win is HUGE, it separates them from what might be a couple BT teams finishing with 7 wins. Really need to find a way to pull out at least one more win.

Oh, and I'd be flat out jaw-dropping lay, amazingly floored if Wisky makes a BCS game. Too many teams in front of them need to lose, some of them more than once, and the strength of schedule is NOT in Wisky's favor the rest of the way. It's not happening. And it shouldn't.
 



Root hard against Iowa. Even if the Gophers lose the last two games, if Iowa loses to Michigan and Nebraska to finish 6-6, it's highly unlikely they would jump the 8-4 Gophers in the selection process.

There are a lot of potential losses for the teams ranked ahead of Wisconsin.

UCLA and Arizona State play each other this week, and the winner might have a loss awaiting them in Eugene. Michigan State would drop if they lose to Ohio State. Texas A&M has to travel to LSU and Missouri. If Mizzou beats Ole Miss and A&M, they'd have Alabama in the SEC title game - otherwise, that spot goes to South Carolina, who must also face Clemson. Oklahoma State has Baylor and Oklahoma.

I don't know how the formula works, but Wisconsin is guaranteed to rise at least a handful of spots in the human polls if they win out.

Beating Ole Miss in a bowl game would be very helpful for this program. I'd love to see that matchup.
 

Beat Wisconsin and it takes a B1G BCS At-Large berth out of the equation. It also probably eliminates Iowa and Michigan from jumping over us.

The 2 win rule does not apply to the Outback Bowl if the Big Ten gets 2 BCS bids.

The bad news is that it's stripper tear-away.

True story: I used to make good money dancing for sororities at the U. I also made 30% of Kelly Leeks' earnings when he would borrow my outfit to dance at a special fraternity.
 

OSU will get into the BCS title game when Alabama loses to either Auburn or Mizzou

In the light of results yesterday, is Dallas still likely to be our destination for a bowl game if we lose to Michigan State?

What about if we beat them?
