Ohio State coach Urban Meyer has been known as a relentless recruiter, so a story about his aggressive pursuit of 5-star offensive lineman KC McDermott is not unbelievable.

McDermott, a top-five offensive tackle according to 247Sports, committed to the hometown Miami Hurricanes in April. The West Palm Beach, Fla., native grew up a Miami fan, and his older brother, Shane, is expected to compete for the starting center position this fall after being named All-ACC Honorable Mention in 2012.

In a recent interview with Bleacher Report, McDermott told a story about the time he turned down Meyer and Ohio State in person. According to the Hurricanes' commit, Meyer "looked like he was a baby about to cry."

"The Urban Meyer thing was just funny to me. He came to my school a week after I told his assistant that I wasn't even interested in them," McDermott said. "I told him no to his face, and it's got to be one of the top five reactions of someone ever. His facial expression was just so funny. My coach was tearing up and had to go in his office and laugh."

After being asked to elaborate on Meyer's "funny" face, McDermott compared the two-time national championship winning coach to an infant.

"It literally looked like a kid the first time you tell him 'no, you can't do something.' It looked like he was a baby about to cry. It was so funny."

Go Gophers!!

The arrogance of players and coaches is at an all time high. Pathetic.

I can't help but hope this kid is a bust. Terrible person!

What a jackass. He knows full well that Meyer can't say anything back (given the restrictions on speaking about recruits), so there is nothing (publicly, at least) that he can do to counter it. Who's acting like a baby here?

Last year, if Bielema came to Minnesota to try to recruit a player -
A) who was a hometown dedicated Gopher fan all his life
B) whose brother is Gopher
C) who had outspokenly declared himself a Gopher
D) and who had told Bielema's assistant he was no where close to interested
E) and Bielema visited anyway - only to be curtly rejected

I have a feeling this kid would be a hometown hero.

(just had to play devil's advocate) =)

I too find this story hilarious. I'm sure Meyer has endured far worse considering he doesn't exactly have morals when it comes to recruiting, but it's those coaches who won national titles.

Move along. Nothing to see here.

Meyer is an egotist who lost control of the Florida program. I think players dissing coaches who are recruiting them, in general is very bad form. At best it appears arrogan. But this looks to me as though Meyer brought it on himself, and if true it could not happen to too many people it fits better..

I'm still mad at Urban Meyer telling the other Big Ten coaches that they suck at recruiting. I think whatever happens to him he deserves.

Who knows how much of this story is true or just some high school kid exaggerating for attention.

A. First it is Miami
B. Miami kids haven't been known as the " Father Flanigan's " of the college football scene.
C. Meyer is a ruthless recruiter and by many accounts is the same as a person.
Summary: Welcome to the not so nice side of college football.

Just so you all don't have to speculate further, I know KC and the McDermott family personally. They are very nice people that support their community and H.S. football. KC is a respectful good kid. Never in trouble, not arrogant and the family is not some "typical Miami" family as some have implied here. KC's brother Shane is Miami's Center and started his college career a semester early and I believe is getting a degree in Marine Biology. These are educated people and every one of the McDermott's son's have and will play D1 football.

Maybe Urban Meyer was acting like an infant, who knows. Either way, these big college coaches promise these kids the world, double talk them, string them along, drop them like a sack of potatoes so what is some 17 year old supposed to think? The whole recruiting process by these big school coaches is a complete sh*t show.

Is he the recruit that was promised to meet the late Michael Jackson?
